“Blessed Be the Flexible”
That’s been the saying at the school—and wow, did we ever get a crash course in flexico… lol! Flexico is a combination of two words flexible and Mexico and is what the Lord has been leading us to be each year that we’ve been in Mexico.… Flexible.
We started out on the “right” foot and then we “left… “when we arrived in Mexico for our 7th year of Calvary School of Missions (CSOM) We could hardly believe that we were here with 12 amazing students and 8 passionate leaders. With eager anticipation, we were looking forward to what the Lord was going to do in and through this year. We start the school off with the theme of surrender where we ask the students to be willing to lay down their hopes, dreams, thoughts, and plans in an act of surrender to the Lord, Jenn and I participate in this as well offering Him our lives to do with as He will. We do this very literally and symbolically, after looking into the word of God and what it says about surrender, we spend some time in worship and prayer and write down the things that are near and dear to us, after that we take our pieces of paper to the fire and burn it watching our plans go up in smoke That’s the right foot to start off on !!
Though we started off on the right foot, we took a major U-turn after just one week— Jenn fell down some stairs and broke her left leg. Ouch! 😣 After four days in the hospital and reconstructive surgery, we find ourselves back home.
Trusting God in the Unexpected
The Bible gives us so many examples of flexibility and trust in God’s guidance:
• Abraham left his homeland on God’s word.
• Moses led an unpredictable people through a wilderness.
• Paul adapted through every twist in his missionary journeys.
And now, we too are learning how to trust God’s plan and adapt to changing circumstances.
Over and over again, God was showing us through His word how faithful, trustworthy and able He is to handle any of our problems, I Tim was thinking wow maybe this is going to be one wild ride this year… Never even thinking hardship would strike so close to home and I would find my bride laying on the ground reeling and agony. There’s not enough room in this newsletter to tell you how many ways we saw God’s hand upon the situation before hand in the middle of and afterwards but we happened to have some extra time on our hands and would love to visit with you either in person or over the phone and share more of God’s goodness in the middle of apparent catastrophe.
I Tim don’t normally share what I’ve written on that piece of paper that I put in the fire as an act of surrender to the Lord, I keep it between Him and I but this year I wrote that I’m willing to surrender CSOM. With no idea that resolve would be put to the test the way it has been. I’m happy to report by God’s grace, I’m still in that place and find myself in acceptance to whatever He chooses to do in my life… No regrets No resentment.
We want to share one more glimpse of God’s fingerprints on our situation. The Lord had set Tim and I up with an incredible team of support staff that have been able to slide right into our roles in such a seamless way that we wonder if we were ever really needed :-)
Everybody stepped right up into their instant promotions, and they are doing a great job. Jenn had prepackaged children’s ministry and women’s ministry in such a way that our student leaders were able to take the ball and head down field for a touchdown. Tim is still available and working hard from home in a consultation and Support Roll along with wrapping up a few of the details handing over the school to Pastor Gary, we were able to return home. Along with his home healthcare duties caring for Jenn as God would have it, he has also resumed some of his regular responsibilities around the church. One of them being teaching four of the midweek studies throughout the summer.
We also want you to know we have been truly blessed in serving God in many other ways since our last newsletter, we have been running full speed….As you all know it takes a lot of planning for a 6 week program for CSOM along with the other day to day things we get to be a part of!! Here’s some update on the wonderful things we GET to be a part of.
What We’ve Been Up to Since our last newsletter - It’s been go time! Preparing a 6-week program for CSOM is no small feat, not to mention the many other ministry opportunities we’re blessed to be part of. Here’s a peek at what’s been happening:
Voice of Refugee (VOR) Outreach - Jenn recently took a couple of students to Friends Church in Corona to help host a VOR outreach event for women in the refugee community. It was a beautiful time of showing the love of Jesus through facials, manicures, food, and fellowship.
This was the first time this church participated in such an event—praise God for new partnerships and open doors! It’s so encouraging to see more churches coming together to reach the unreached.
Lydia and I (Jenn) sat at the bracelet table and had the opportunity to engage in deep, meaningful conversation with three incredible women: a mother, her daughter, and an aunt. The daughter, a former teacher, had left Afghanistan to give her child a better life. Hearing their stories—full of trauma, strength, and hope—reminded us of the deep need for Jesus’ healing love.
Welcoming Workers on Furlough
One of the greatest blessings of our ministry through SGWM is having the opportunity to welcome and host global workers while they’re on furlough. It fills us with joy and gratitude to open our home—to love on them, encourage them, and share meals and fellowship together.
Recently, we had the joy of reconnecting with Michelle, a missionary serving in South Asia who married a national brother just one year ago. She returned to the States for a visit, and we had the privilege of attending a special dessert gathering at her home church.
It was a powerful evening— Tim shared the Word, and Jenn had the honor of praying over Michelle. It was such a beautiful time of encouragement and unity, seeing the body of Christ gather to support one of our own.
Moments like these remind us just how deeply connected we are, no matter where we serve. What a gift it is to come alongside these faithful laborers, even if only for a short time, and refresh their hearts as they prepare to return to the mission field.
“Our very dear friend and sister Lacey from our first year of school has finally been able to come on furlough after two long years from S. Asia. What a joy it is to reunite and share precious time together again, especially to have them stay in our home!” “It was such a blessing to see her daughter experiencing a new culture and delighting in the company and joy of other children.”
“Walking alongside the students in discipleship is one of Jenn’s deepest joys."
Prayer Requests:
• Continued healing for Jenn’s foot
• Health, unity, and strength for the CSOM team
• Open hearts and fruitful ministry as the students & leaders serve in Mexico
• Opportunities for deeper discipleship with the students
We love and appreciate all of you who pray, give, and support us in so many ways. We couldn’t do it without your partnership in the Gospel. First of all, we are so grateful to God and to you for the way y’all have partnered with us through reading our newsletters, praying for us, encouraging us, being part of our care team, and for your generous financial support. Thank you all so much, it humbles us and reminds us that we are all part of an incredible team God has put together to further the gospel around the world.
We continue to be amazed at how God provides and uses us for the Kingdom and for the furtherance of the gospel. December 2024 was a busy month, Christmas Church services at Saving Grace, Mexico Christmas outreach, our 5th anniversary getaway, family functions along with our normal activities with MTS, missionary care, pastoral duties and hosting weekly life group in our home. We thank God for sustaining our bodies as we are recognizing the fragility in our bones. We keep reminding each other of 2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day……Praise be to God! Amen?!
In December, I (Jenn) had an opportunity to coordinate a holiday craft day at our church and help with table decorations for the yearly Christmas Outreach at Calvary Pedregales in Tijuana, Mexico. Our sister serves there at Saving Grace World Missions. We did something different this year by hosting women’s dinner @ Calvary Pedregales. We also were able to bless the children with Christmas shoeboxes. For most households, this is the only gift the children will receive for Christmas. Tim came along as well to help with setting up a beautiful backdrop, disciple the men.
2025 has not been what we thought it would be, we are grateful that God does not follow our plans, but calls us to follow His plan. Normally, we start the year out with staying close to the home front through the holidays serving the body of Calvary Chapel Saving Grace and starting out the new year with a week of prayer and fasting at our home church. Everyone together seeking God’s will, desire and plan for our lives. The last few years we have typically not traveled until May however, like I said, God had different plans this year.
In January we had a wonderful time of prayer and fasting where Jenn and I spent much time seeking the Lord for His will and receiving direction and confirmation on many levels. At the end of January, I Tim was able to go to CBI (Calvary Bible Institute) Philippines to teach a one week block class at the campus in Tagaytay. It was a great time pouring into 9 hungry students seeking to get better equipped to be used by the Lord. I was also able to teach Sunday morning and midweek service. I am grateful to Pastor Tony for the opportunity and for the hard work he is doing in the Philippines.
Another objective of the trip was to scout out the potential of starting a CSOM (Calvary School of Missions) in the Philippines. The school would be aimed at serving those on that side of the world who cannot afford to come to Mexico for six weeks in the summer. After seeing with the Lord would have for us in the Philippines when I got back I felt like Caleb and Joshua when they came back from spying out the promised land … remember what they said
14:27 Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
You probably also remember there were definitely obstacles, but as the people had lost their focus, Caleb and Joshua said
14:30“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
It felt just like seven years ago when we decided to step out and start CSOM Mexico.
Speaking of Mexico, we were able to go for nine days to Zacatecas and Mazatlan, where the focus was on building a deeper relationship with the pastor there whom we believe God would have us partner with to start a SGWM Mexico office and CSOM training facility. Both of these would be all in Spanish. again we really feel this is the direction the Lord would have us go.
We were then able to go to Mazatlan for the annual church planting conference there where Tim taught a workshop on the role of an assistant pastor and we both were able to be involved in much missionary care. We touched base listening to, prayed with and encouraged nine or 10 SGWM missionaries. We were grateful we got to go and thank you all for helping us get there.
Brief look at the next few months:
We move into a very busy for us both in preparation for and launching year seven CSOM (Calvary school of missions).
By the time you read this, Tim will have shoulder surgery repairing some significant damage from a fall in early January.
We will be wrapping up another year of MTS (missions training school)
We appreciate your prayers and are so grateful for you who have already joined us in this area, also If the Lord leads you to partner with us financially, or increase you’re already generous support you can do so by clicking this link- /pappas/give/ or mailing your support check to:
Saving Grace World Missions
17451 Bastanchury Rd., Ste.203 Yorba Linda, CA 62886
*Note Pappas support in memo
All for His Glory,
Tim and Jenn Pappas

https://archive.sgwm.com/pappas/pappas/2025/05/07/throw-back-spring-forward/

Spring 2025 update, a lot has happened since our last newsletter so we wanted to bring you all up to speed. What would it be and why?” I picked the word wow. Why would I use the one word wow to describe the last year? It’s because as I look back at all that God has let us put our hands to this year all I could think to say was wow. Many of you have received and read our updates throughout the year and I’m sure you would agree with me if you haven’t then please visit our blog and catch up on all that happened this year. Looking back at the last couple of months it’s a big WOW. June – October was an incredible season starting with six weeks in Mexico at the Calvary school of missions. CSOM where I Tim get to direct the school assisted by my beautiful wife and an incredible team of past graduates, who are in training, learning skills that will assist them on the mission field (please read last month‘s update for further information on that.) At the end of the six weeks in Mexico, we came back to the states for two weeks in order to regroup and wrap up the admin portion of CSOM. Early September, we launched out to Thailand and south Asia for six more weeks to lead a few students on a vision tour, visit the church plants and workers there, host one of the most incredible conferences in Thailand that I’ve ever been at where we had close to 50 SGWM “Workers” gathered, many of them serve in countries where It is illegal to preach the gospel or share the Bible with the intent to convert someone to christianity. Leaving Thailand we went to South Asia where we had opportunity to teach at some of the Bible colleges and churches. strengthen, encourage, and council senior pastors and there wife’s in the church plants of restricted country where Christians are highly persecuted, and the gospel is not welcomed. Pastor Gary, and myself also had the privilege of teaching systematic theology and the book of Colossians at two of the Bible colleges there. It is such an incredible privilege to be able to train up future church, planters and pastors in a country Where over 1 billion people have never heard the name of Jesus and are completely deceived and lost in Hinduism.
The photo below is CBI Kauai singing the Goodness of God with hand motions. It truly was really beautiful.
I’ll pitch it over to my wife Jenn for some of her highlights of our time
Meeting pastor’s wife from Pakistan for the 1st time, spending time with her and hearing her heart for women of Pakistan 🇵🇰 Finding out she has the same desires as I do with encouraging the broken women. Having interest in biblical counseling. I look forward to continuing to support and encourage her through the next season of her ministry. Her older son gave his life to Jesus at the conference. Hallelujah!!
Also spending time with another pastor’s wife from S.Asia who has been serving on the field for many many years. Hearing her heart and challenges on the field & praying for her. She was encouraged by the conference to get more involved with her ministry and with the students at the Bible school in S. Asia. Tim and I also spent time as a couple with the other couples, listening to them, praying with them, encouraging them.
We also had a new MTS student and a returning MTS student with us in S. Asia on a vision tour. Left one of the students in S. Asia for 6 months on a vision tour. Her second time in S. Asia. This student feels led to this country.
Spending time at each church plant in S. Asia with the workers on the ground was very fruitful. Seeing one of the relocated new church, seeing how their ministry has grown. I was able to share my testimony at 2 locations and teach at a women’s conference at another church. The women even had a sleep over which I hadn’t done in many years. It was fun to see the women’s home and learn their culture. We were able to stay at one of the worker’s home for 1 week and spend intimate time with them and their new baby.
Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing.” Acts 15:37.
This is a verse. We really love, it motivates us to do what we do.
Coming back into the country in mid October it felt like we were busier than ever. MTS (missions training school) was launching in one week and there was so much work to do. By God’s grace we completed enrollments, scheduling, census, curriculum, and syllabus. It is off to a great start and we are looking forward to what the Lord will do with this years 19 students.
As we close out 2024 we are beyond grateful to our great God and King for the most incredible gift ever given… Forgiveness of our sins and reconciliation with Him through the shed blood of His son Jesus Christ, we deeply desire the whole world to hear this good news. We are also grateful for each, and everyone of you who are in our corner financially, emotionally and prayerfully. (Calvary School of Missions)
16 Students: Serena, Alyson, Elli, Olivia, Ariana, Zoe, Michaiah, Emma, Brittany, Katia, John, James, Deprii, Judah, Christian & Russell seeking the Lord with all they’ve got. To say that Watching them use the gifts God has given them was amazing is an understatement. Seven of these students came from the body here at Calvery Chapel Saving Grace. Four students came from Calvary Chapel Simple Faith in Washington, 1 student from Arizona. 1 from Nevada and the others were local. We are excited to share with you that at least 10 of these 16 students will be taking a next step in continuing on with the Missions Training School (MTS) at Saving Grace. Typically a minimum of a 1 year commitment, they will receive in-depth intensive training in church, planting, Bible literacy, cultural issues, being a part of ascending hub, the inner workings of a missions sending agency and so much more. Can you please join us in praying for them individually as they continue to seek the Lord and be equipped for the Mission field,. Please pray for us too, as when we are not out on the field, engaged in missionary care and missionary training we are here at the home office running the MTS
Well we began writing this newsletter while sitting in an airport in TJ (Tijuana Mexico) headed to Culiacan Mexico with 22 people for a couple days of visiting church plants there and then to drive 12 hours up a mountain to an unreached people group (more on that later) every year we are in awe of God’s grace & mercy upon us. At this point, we are 4 weeks into the school so let’s look at a typical day at CSOM: class in the morning, outreaches 2-3 times a week in the afternoon. Book reading time, throughout the 6 weeks they are assigned 9 books to read. Guest missionaries that are on furlough come to the school to share their testimony and teach on challenges of living on the mission field, how to share the gospel when it’s illegal or highly persecuted are some examples of what they teach on. We also incorporate 2 fun days of team building. In 4 weeks, we have had the privilege of putting on 9 outreaches and visited 7 church plants including CC Rosarito The 1st church plant out of Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. It’s always a blessing we get to connect with the Pastor’s and wives of the church plants in Mexico, building relationships and attend the Church Planters Conference at CC Rosarito. Praying with them, listening to some of the challenges along with the blessings.
There is so much to tell you about the six weeks but not enough room in this newsletter to share everything so we invite and desire personal connection to share more. Please call us or email us so we could share a meal at our house or if that doesn’t work, we could grab coffee, a snack or even just a phone call to connect with y’all and let you hear more about what’s going on. We will share with you some highlights of our time with the students, church plants, missionaries. Jenn will start first.
Jenn:
God has blessed us both with amazing privileges at CSOM, my husband is an amazing leader, I’m in awe every year at the gifts God has given him. We had an awesome staff, and we both got to disciple the students while they are at the school. I especially enjoy this. I enjoy getting to know the gals, hearing their testimonies, encouraging them, praying with them. The best part is, it doesn’t stop when the school is over. It continues as they continue in the Missions Training School and until they get sent out! This is huge for the future missionaries. Having that ground support, a rope to hang onto as they are sent to another country for the furtherance of the gospel. “Missionary Care” is a must for these world changers.
I Jenn had great opportunity to share my testimony at a Women’s Rehab in Culiacan. Jenna Peppin, a missionary at CC Norte, began a ministry “Casa Manantial”- Clinica de addictions para mujeres rehab earlier this year. As many of you know, this is my wheel house. As I shared my testimony, Jenna translated in Spanish to the ladies. About 40 ladies in house. Part of my testimony involves a caterpillar and a butterfly. A new creation in Christ, 1 Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! Before you get to the new creation, you are a caterpillar. I was blessed by some women who came up to me to tell me how they could relate to my testimony and some ladies admitted they were still in the caterpillar stage. Another blessing, when I finished my testimony, I noticed a podium in the room that had a Butterfly on the front of it. Isn’t God awesome! That brought a huge smile on my face. I found out later that their logo has a butterfly on it with a bible verse in Romans 12:2 - And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
The other great opportunity was to teach the women at the Midweek service in Culiacan at CC Norte. This was a special opportunity not only because I had a teaching opportunity, but my hubby also taught this same evening to the men. I’ll let him tell you about it below. CC Norte had been going through the book of 1 John. We were to teach out of 1 John 2:7-11. Love God and love your neighbor. What a great passage to teach on, but also challenging in this world. I titled my message “The Unchanging Commandment in a Changing World”. A woman came up to me and explained she has been having a hard time loving some family members because of their behaviors and actions. She said she was going to love them more like Jesus tells us to do in His word. (in the picture below of me teaching, I’m demonstrating how deep the love of our God, how wide…etc.)
So many other opportunities where I was able to connect to women on outreaches, in passing, just listening to their testimonies of their life, hearing them pour out their hearts and give them encouragement and pray with them. This is one of the blessings in our travels. I love connecting with the women and ministering to them.
Tim:
I have two things I’d like to share on.
First is the amazing privilege and mind blowing experience I’ve had being able to not only do life together, but also partner in full-time ministry with my wife. A year ago when she stepped out of her job resigning from her career in chemical dependency and addiction treatment we knew it was time but we didn’t have any idea how good God’s timing was. I always knew she had an anointing on her life to walk with and counsel broken women, but in the last year, I’ve seen that in a much deeper way. I have also found out what an incredible administrator she is and as many of you know me you understand what an incredible blessing that is. Jenn has many God given gifts that she brings to the table and we are both willing to follow God’s call on our lives 100% but we are super grateful He called us to minister in the same capacities together. Although she’s been able to help and attend CSOM for various links over the years. This was the first year we were able to lead the school side-by-side the whole time. It’s difficult to put into words. What a blessing that was and what a valuable gift she is. Well unless you think I’m completely partial (and I am :-) I’ll move onto the second thing I wanted to share with y’all.
Visiting an unreached people group on our second time to partner with a good friend and ministry partner Pastor Antonio from Calvary Chapel Aguaruto. Pastor Antonio has been ministering to an unreached people group located in the mountains of Mexico known as the “circle of silence”. Last year on our first trip we went to visit the Kuáre tribe and wanted to return to see them again this year, however due to circumstances beyond our control, i.e. un-passable roads, vehicle issues, ECT we had to make different plans actually what I should say is we needed to align our plans with God’s plan. It’s funny how God can use adversity to get us in line with his plans. We went to visit a related tribe known as the Cora. They are located several hours away from the tribe we last visited but it was still quite a journey. With several hours of technical off-road driving cut off from last year’s trip it still took us 10+ hours to get to them. Upon arrival Pastor Antonio, myself, Pastor Gary, and two other brothers went to meet with the tribal counsel and chief to gain permission to be there. The 16 or so council members were seated along the walls of a not so large room with one table in it. It was quite the scene, forgive me for no pictures. It just didn’t seem like the time to start snapping selfies. After a customary time of greeting each one of them from each one of us the conversation began. One of the benefits of this tribe is that they speak their native tongue as well as Spanish so Pastor Antonio was able to dialogue with them much better than the tribe that we visited last year. After sometime, what seemed like some pretty intense discussion in Spanish, the conversations switched to their native tongue where they were talking amongst themselves as we stood there having no idea how it was going to go but I’m happy to say by God’s grace we were given a warm welcome and an invitation to stay with them in their community for a few days. We had all been in much prayer leading up to this point and continued on seeking the Lord for opportunities to just plant seeds. We really expected nothing more than being able to share the love of Christ in word and in deed, but one of the really cool things that wound up happening was, we were praying for someone to connect with in that community. Long story short, we connected with a young man named Fabian. Fabian spent some time in the states spoke English, Spanish and the native dialect. The young man in his early 20s so some of the younger students shared the gospel with him. Jenn and I and a few others got to go to his grandmother’s house and visit and by the third day there he wound up giving his life to the Lord. He told us he had known parts of the story, but had just been waiting for someone to come tell him the rest of the story of Gods love. We were blown away… that Sunday, there were several other professions of faith and now we are seeking to get back as fast as possible with Bibles. Please pray for Pastor Antonio as he is raising up a local man to eventually plant a church there. We love you all so much and wish we can tell you much more in this newsletter. However, the invitations still stands please contact us so we can tell you more in person.
Please keep us in prayer 9/13-10/25/24 as we travel to Thailand for a Church Conference and then head to S. Asia to visit 3 of our workers there for missionary care. We can’t wait to tell you all about it on our next newsletter.
We love you all so much and thank you for being behind us. We are excited to share with you that at least 10 of these 16 students will be taking a next step in continuing on with the Missions Training School (MTS) at Saving Grace. Asia. They spent several months going through this glorious gospel and mining out the beautiful and powerful truths that are there. It was a great time for Tim and the students. We are grateful that even when we can’t physically be there. Technology allows us to continue to pour into these young future church planters who are passionate for the furtherance of the gospel and the work of the ministry in some of the most persecuted and difficult places in the world.
In March, one of our dear friends Merry, went home to be with the Lord. Her husband of 46 years rejoices that she is present with the Lord, but still struggles through much grief as you could imagine. We are grateful to be here for him and with him. Tim was able to have a roll in the funeral and the celebration of life that meant so much to him and his dear friend John. Please be praying for John as he tries to figure out how to navigate life here without his bride by his side. We are fortunate to have had him at our house often and he has joined Tim in a men’s small group that meets every Friday.
Wedding Bells
Life certainly has its ups and downs, new beginnings and sudden endings but through it all it’s clear that God is in complete control. 100% sovereign. What a fun time we had at the wedding of a couple of our past students. We are grateful, humbled and somewhat baffled that these youngsters not only want us in their lives, but consider us near and dear to them. It was such a privilege for us to walk them through this pivotal event in their lives and for Tim to be able to conduct their wedding.
Jenn got to use her God given gift of hospitality and host a bridal shower for a MTS student moving to S. Asia who will be marrying one of the National Pastors serving with SGWM. She said “ I especially enjoyed cooking the Indian Dishes, Tikka Masala & Chaat dip I made from scratch, it turned out so yummy. Chaat dip is a layered dip. Tikka Masala is a yummy sauce with chicken. Typically it is very spicy but I didn’t make it spicy. Now I know how to make food for our nationals when they come on furlough”. If you would like to join us for dinner and eat National food together, please let us know. I truly enjoy hosting, it’s such a blessing to bless others.
There are definitely no shortages of care needed on the mission field. In these past months, Jenn’s counseled women struggling with many difficult things. Spiritual depletion & warfare, deception, grief and loss, marriage counseling. Also, good stuff too, encouragement with the calling on the field, rejoicing with them for God’s faithfulness and provisions. Building them up through the Word of God and prayer.
What an amazing opportunity to serve at the Voice of Refugees a Ministry here in Orange County. They host a yearly event to help women who have fled from persecuted and dangerous countries for safety. These women have been through a lot of trauma, at times fearing for their lives . VOR is the hands and feet of Jesus transforming lives through God’s love. Assistance with many resources from English classes to housing and much more.
Last month our church hosted a woman’s spring brunch where Jenn was asked to lead up this event along with an awesome opportunity to share her testimony along with the gospel to the Women at Saving Grace Spring Brunch. The theme was “New Life” 🦋🦋🦋 We are a new creation in Christ. We played games and had crafts too!! The butterfly craft was a hit!! Over 80 women attended this event!! I truly love teaching and encouraging the women by the Word of God and by my testimony. It’s humbling and honoring to our Father!
Tim had a wonderful opportunity to teach the principles of biblical counseling in the missions training school . We believe Scripture is absolutely sufficient to guide us through all issues in our life. While the world’s approach to counseling may aim to “fix” people from the outside, biblical counseling’s goal is to lead individuals into the Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform them from the inside out. The emphasis is on heart change, realignment with God’s will, and internal transformation. This is something that Jenn and I are passionate about and seek to pass on to the next generation.
Calvary School of Missions coming up around the corner.
It’s hard to believe that we get to do this for the sixth year in a row, and we are expecting God to do great things. Time fails us to tell you of all the wonderful things that he has done in the past five years of this school, but we have seen the fruit of this ministry grow beyond what we ever thought it could. We have seven graduated students serving full-time in the Middle East, two in Japan and two in South Asia. We’ve seen incredible spiritual, and personal growth in the students as well as ourselves. So far we have 15 students that will be attending with a few interviews still to conduct. There is much work left to do so we appreciate everyone’s prayers as we put the finishing touches on scheduling teachers, outreaches, transportation, housing etc. One of the incredible things that we get to do this year is a return visit to the unreached people group in the mountains of Mexico that we visited last year. In our next newsletter we will speak more of that and of the unreached.
We love you all so much and thank you for being behind us. Let us tell you about him. He is a Mexican national, who has graduated from CSOM and is now at our church training to go over seas to the Middle East to join 7 other missionaries that have been sent already in the last year. Marcelo has a huge serving heart and has a passion for the lost. His uncle is the senior pastor at Calvary Culiacan. We are so delighted to have him with us for the time being, he helped us in Mazatlan with promoting the school and helping us with translation. He is an excellent interpreter.
We heard from some GREAT bible teachers & pastors. Hugo Limon from Culiacan spoke on, “Creating a Sending Hub” to reach big cities. Wes Bentley founder of “Far Reaching Ministries” taught on “Planting Churches to reach the World.” Bruce Zachary, pastor and author of 17 books, taught on “Raising up Leaders.” Pastor Mike Vincent from CCR who has planted 39 churches and 20 church planting schools taught, “The Sending Hub,” an overview of Acts 1:8. “But you will receive the power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And finally, Pastor Tony Carranza from Calvary Maranatha, a bilingual church that sent out 6 new church plants. Tony taught on, “Creating a Sending Hub through a Church Planting School.” Tim also taught a workshop on serving as an assistant pastor and closed out the conference with communion. Jenn helped out in the children’s ministry, her wheel house.
So many other workshops were taught by missionaries serving on the field, Pastors & Pastors wives Q & A. Sooo encouraging and stirring for the Nations. We are in awe that WE get to be a part of the Great Commission!!
Romans 10:14 - how then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Here are some quotes that stayed with us when leaving the conference:
**Engage, equip, encourage, empower.
**The gospel is of the world, the world needs more gospel centered churches.
**Be relational.
**Learn the culture.
**Identify future disciples and church planters.
**Prepare yourself for the opposition.
**Continue to be faithful and count the cost.
**Make prayer a priority.
We were blessed by some divine appointments in getting to know some new sisters and brothers with a possibility to partner with them and helping them use their ministry for the Great Commission AND catching fireflies for CSOM. One of the things we love the most is meeting new people in Christ.
Tim and I continue to love on the students by training, debriefing, discipling, fellowshipping, and walking side-by-side with them on the road the Lord has for them to reach the unreached and fulfill the great commission.
Jenn was able to attend the Calvary Curriculum Children’s Ministry Conference this past month along with one of our missionaries who is here on furlough. Thus was Jenn’s first time attending this conference, in prior years she was not able to attend because of work. Jenn was able to take away so many important ways to teach the kiddos about Jesus. As she leads up the Nursery/ Toddlers Ministry, her main focus is to teach the kids how to pray, read the Bible, & worship. Kids are smarter than we think at this age. Jenn truly enjoys ministering to the kiddos at Saving Grace and hopes to take this to the unreached God willing this year!
Tim also had the opportunity to take/drive the high schoolers up to Big Bear for their annual retreat. The theme of the retreat was God pursuing you. He was asked to teach so he shared on Psalm 139 bringing out the truths of how intimately God already knows you, how much He loves you, and how it doesn’t make sense to run from somebody you can’t get away from anyhow.
Jenn also had the opportunity to teach an encouraging devotional to the group of wives in S. Asia over FaceTime. 5 wives showed up and it truly was a fruitful time praying and sharing. She taught a short lesson on, “It is Well With My Soul.” I’m sure you have heard of the song. No matter the storms and/or persecution that come our way, our GOD is greater. No man can separate us from HIM. (Due to security, we are unable to post any photos) We continue to meet monthly.
Tim and I are amazed by God’s grace and faithfulness to us. We are truly blessed beyond measures that we get to be a part of the Great Commission at Saving Grace World Missions. We see so many times God confirming to us our calling since I quit my job. God continues to provide for us! This is our God! Loving, faithful, sovereign, compassionate.
Prayer Requests:
Please pray for the 2024 Calvary School of Missions and for us as we get to lead this wonderful work of God’s. Please pray for us, as we are implementing some personal disciplines that will enable us to serve the Lord in this capacity for many more years. Please pray for our son Andy as he is still wandering in his wilderness and desperately needs Jesus. Praise Jesus we are able to minister to him and see him frequently. We pray for our Father to renew his mind. Please pray for wisdom as we navigate this new year in a way that honors God and brings much glory to Him. This year’s calendar for missionary care and equipping is quite full and opportunities are not lacking. We love you all so much and thank you for being behind us. You are also part of this ‘Great Commission’!! We are so dependent on and grateful for your prayers and want to say thank you to those who have already joined us in this area. We’re not going to try to check off our to-do list or New Year’s resolutions of 2024 before we learn to practice the art of being still before our great God and king. We were grateful to be able to have a week of downtime between Christmas and New Year’s. 2024 started off with a short week in the office, followed by a weeklong time of prayer and fasting that our whole church engages in.
I heard somebody say the other day “no one is as busy as I am” ! That saddened me, but I begin to wonder if the same could be said of us. I think we are all the equal amount of busy, there are only 24 hours in a day, but just exactly what are we busy doing? That’s what Jenn and I have begun to pray about. Ministry matters and affairs around the church have to be tended to but people matter more and being still before the Lord matters even more than that.
THROWBACK TO 2023
We had the opportunity to serve at one of the church plants, Calvary Chapel Pedregales in Tijuana, Mexico. Taking Christmas shoeboxes and being part of an outreach for the community was such a blessing. SGWM missionary Deanna Juevez has been serving down there for 20+ years. I love her testimony where she committed 1 year to serving at the church and now she doesn’t ever want to leave. Deanna runs an afterschool program/soup kitchen with 40 children ages 6-12. She also oversees the Children’s Ministry at CC Pedregales, as well as correspondence for groups that come for short-term missions trips. She’s an amazing lady and friend and we were honored to be a part of blessing the families in the community. The children there are very poor so several of them wanted to wait to open their gifts on Christmas because it is the only gift they will receive. Please pray for these children and their families, that they would come to know Jesus and attend CC Pedragales. We love serving alongside each other, we provided the craft for the children ages 3-12yrs old. The theme was the “birth of Jesus” in the manger.
As you know we recently began to be able to serve together as a couple in this new season of our lives. One of the things we love most is pouring into the missions training students, discipling and teaching them the ways of the Word. We also get to provide housing, transportation, and a safe place for the students to pour their hearts out. One of the really cool and kind of unexpected things we love is discipling the students who are engaged and married. It’s crazy to sit back and look at how good our Father is by raising these like minded youngsters up to marry and be sent out to the mission field! AND they want to hang out with US!! Tim and I love every minute of it.
Another one of the blessings over the years has been to host and visit with missionaries around the world here on furlough. We had some great times in our home with Vincent and Melissa Aniku from Uganda. They are dear friends of ours, and we love to spend quality time. Before we closed out 2023 we had a wonderful opportunity to have dinner with some friends of ours from Uganda. They were at our home and shared the wonderful works that the Lord is doing there. We are hoping to go out and visit them and their ministry sometime before June. Another friend from a different area in Uganda was in the office for one day and Tim got to have great fellowship with him.
We are thanking our Father for the many blessings He has brought us in 2023. We are so grateful that we GET to serve the Lord in the capacity He allows us. As we are reminded, our God is our Provider, Redeemer, our Salvation, and He saved a wretch like us! We have had our challenges in 2023, but God is faithful and sovereign through it all!
Prayer Requests:
Please pray for the 2024 Calvary School of Missions and for us as we get to lead this wonderful work of God’s. There is the heightened awareness and celebration of Jesus, the Messiah, and the indescribable gift of grace, and love that God has given us, the opportunity and openness of this time of year for the gospel to go forth, and gratitude and love, that seems to be more freely shared. Another one of the things that Jenn and I truly love around Christmas time is wrapping. I know that may sound strange, but the wrapping of gifts and the beauty of gifts wrapped and placed under the tree and the thoughtfulness that goes into it has a super special spot in our hearts. As we wrap up 2023 we hope to do a good job of wrapping up in this final update.
We often tell you about ministry with Saving Grace World Missions, but you may ask yourself what do they do around Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. Well, let me assure you there’s never a dull moment there and the Lord has allowed Jenn and I to be used in many ways around the church. Our first and primary calling is to serve with Saving Grace World Missions in fulfilling the great commission. But we are acutely aware that Calvary Chapel Saving Grace is the home base of Saving Grace World Missions and our church family, so we invest a lot of time there as well.
I Tim get to serve as an assistant pastor here at the fellowship, providing pastoral oversight for the hospitality ministry, Deacons ministry, as well as the safety ministry. I get to have an active role in seeing to it that Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings services are safe, clean, functioning well and distraction free so people can come to learn the word of God, fellowship with the body and get recharged.
Jenn recently stepped out of her job @ Hoag Hospital and is now serving full time alongside Tim at Saving Grace World Missions (SGWM) & Calvary Chapel Saving Grace (CCSG) as his assistant by helping with CSOM & Missions Training School. There are 21 students right now at MTS. Part of what we get to do is train up & disciple the next generation for cross-cultural church planting. These are a few of the things we get to do.
We also are both involved in biblical counseling here at the fellowship, and are really grateful to walk-through life’s struggles with others, looking to the Lord and His Word for solution.
As far as our primary ministry with Saving Grace World Missions, it’s been a wonderful year of missionary equipping, and missionary care. We have had many opportunities this year, to provide missionary care on the field in South Asia, the Middle East, Mexico, and South America. We are very careful as to what we put in writing as in many of these areas the missionaries are working amongst the unreached and have governments that are hostile to the gospel. Along with caring for those on the field, we have had wonderful teaching opportunities as well. Jenn was able to hold a women’s conference and Tim taught at several Bible college campuses.
Here are a couple photos, faces have been blotted out for security reasons.
For security purposes, please DO NOT forward this email, post, or share it with anyone else without our permission. Thank you.
Looking back at 2023 we are blown away with what the Lord has allowed us to be involved in, and the many partners he has brought alongside of us. For us to say to you you are very much part of this ministry and the fruit of the work we get to do is yours as much as ours and we couldn’t, and wouldn’t imagine doing this without you sound cliché, but it’s not. We mean it from the bottom of our hearts, we are so grateful for your love, encouragement, prayers, and financial support. The way you all have come along side of us and encourage us in the Lord is the best gift anyone could ask for.
As we think of gifts that have been given to us throughout the year by all of you, we are so very grateful for you! You are also part of this ‘Great Commission’ !! We are so dependent on and grateful for your prayers and want to say thank you to those who have already joined us in this area, we realize it’s by God’s grace and through your prayers that we are able to serve the Lord the way we do but if the Lord leads you to partner with us financially, we are in need of additional monthly supporters, if you desire to increase your already generous support, please know that it would be a huge help. Lastly, now that Jenn and I are full-time missionaries on support we would ask if you would consider a one time year-end tax deductible gift. It would be a huge blessing, and help launch us into 2024 on the right foot.
You can do so by clicking on the link below to become a financial partner or mailing your support check to Saving Grace World Missions
17451 Bastanchury Rd., Ste.203 Yorba Linda, CA 62886
*Note Pappas support in memo
All for His Glory,
Tim and Jenn Pappas

https://archive.sgwm.com/pappas/pappas/2023/12/21/we-are-wrapping-it-up/

To borrow a line from an old song…

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

There are many wonderful things about this month. As we have had a few moments to reflect on the past eight weeks in Mexico with the 2023 CSOM, our heart is to stick the landing… Land well. That’s the moment that can make all the difference. `Well thanks to our Gods grace, mercy, and the prayers of friends like you that’s exactly what happened. Arranging Ministry outreach, organizing curriculum, securing teachers, I’m exhausted just writing this :-)
I could go on and on but I think you get the point. It’s a lot of work, but it’s so worth it, just like competing in the Olympics for that gold medal is . A week after we got back, we were able to sneak away for some much-needed R&R. Tent camping in the mountains just Jenn and I with our Bibles a good book and a guitar. We worshipped & cooked by the campfire and yes even got to do a little stream fishing but mostly we got to be still and know that He is God. It was much needed because as we came back down the mountain there’s more work to be done. The Missions Training School (MTS for short) is an extension of the Calvary School of Missions where some of the students from CSOM enter into the training school with the long-term goal of being placed full-time on the mission field, where the Lord would have them to be. There’s too much to tell about in this letter, so more will have to be told at a later time because we wanted to save room to tell a little more about our time during CSOM.
I’ll let Jenn share about one of the most exciting things we got to be a part of this summer at CSOM, which was visiting an unreached people group in the mountains of Mexico.
The Kuaré Tribe
We joined other Calvary Chapels from Sinaloa, and traveled a total of about 15 hours to the state of Nayarit. From there, we then journeyed up the mountains through the night on uneven roads with many pot holes and very little asphalt. We use the term “road” loosely, but finally we reached the Kuaré Tribe. Needless to say, we had little to no sleep. Pastor Antonio and his wife from Calvary Aguaruto, one of Pastor Hugo ‘s church plants have been visiting this tribe for the past 5 -6 years, creating relationships, providing for their needs, and sharing about Jesus.
We were truly grateful for all the prayers as we were concerned about the weather going up the mountain. If the rain came it could have completely stopped our mission. The roads were treacherous, and the drive was difficult, so we were so grateful to God that the rain did not come until we arrived to their Community. Tim and I pulled out our rain gear and did what we do, “serve”. When we asked the students to pull out their ponchos, most of them said they left them in their backpack which was tied down on the top of the vans under a tarp. As we chuckled inside, as we faced yet again, another challenge in training up these future missionaries. AGAIN, God reminded us, this is WHY we do what we do! Training and raising up these future missionaries and leaders has been such a joy and we are tempted to tell you of the nine past students who are now living in the 10/40 window making steps to reach some of the hardest people to reach. There’s too much to tell about in this letter, so more will have to be told at a later time. Since this is the second time, we said that we might as well reveal that somewhere in the next few months we will be having an update, get together, sometimes called a dessert gathering where we invite people to gather and here in person. All the Lord has allowed us to be a part of. We will keep you posted as we’re not sure yet if it will be at our home our church or another facility but we would love to share with you all live. It’s way overdue.
Back to the mountain…We got to spend 3 days with these beautiful people. Some of the things we got to be a part of was going from house to house in groups passing out clothes, shoes, medical supplies, and praying for each family; the students helped put together VBS style outreaches alongside of the other church plant teams from Sinaloa and ended our time with the tribe’s first ever church service in their language, translating from Spanish to English and then into Kuaré, the local language. The Kuaré, people know that there is a God because they see the evidence through the mountains, trees, and weather, yet they worship creation instead of the Creator because they did not know who He was.
It was a very simple Gospel message, but It was incredible to watch them hear that the God who created nature, also created them and that His name is Jesus and He wants a relationship with each one of them.
There was so much else we got to engage in this summer at the school of missions and we want to make sure you know that, even if our visit to the unreached people groups was by far the most powerful and exciting, it does not diminish in anyway the ministry outreaches the church planters conference, visiting church plants, and yes, much Missionary Care !!! We were able to connect with 8 or more SGWM Missionary’s over our summer and although the training of future missionaries seems to be the main focus God has for our lives at the very moment He has in no way lessened the call to care for existing missionaries on the field as well as to continue in biblical counseling and discipleship. We love being able to serve our Lord in this way !!!
We are so dependent on and grateful for your prayers and want to say thank you to those who have already joined us in this area, we realize it’s by gods grace and through your prayers that we are able to serve the lord the way we do but If the Lord leads you to partner with us financially, or increase you’re already generous support it would be a huge help.
You can do so by clicking here to become a financial partner or mailing your support check to
Saving Grace World Missions
17451 Bastanchury Rd., Ste.203 Yorba Linda, CA 62886
If you would like to sign up to receive our newsletters, you can do so by clicking here.
*Note Pappas support in memo
All for His Glory,
Tim and Jenn Pappas

https://archive.sgwm.com/pappas/pappas/2023/09/27/stick-the-landing/

You gotta stick the landing !!

In gymnastics an event can be fierce, the workouts, the practices, not to mention the competitions themselves are highly emotional and physically challenging. We have a blend of students from 18 years old to 62 years old who are all in love with Jesus and are passionate about the great need for the gospel to go to all nations. It’s been a joy watching these students serve the Lord in different capacities. These students are proving to be on fire for the Lord. We have heard students talking about how the Lord has spoke to them about going to Japan, India, Indonesia, even Saudi Arabia. The students have heard from many missionaries on the field, the R Family from N. Africa, Sam & Amy Baby from S Asia, Paul Billings from Jorden, Heather Gaona, Director of 10/40 National Missionaries, Kurt Kula from Georgia (the country) Pastor Nadeem M. from Pakistan. Our friends from Pakistan & S. Asia were not able to join us, but through the aide of modern technology, we felt as if they were right here with us. We are grateful for technology. I’ve heard nothing but positive comments from the students on how helpful the classes have been and how they are learning so much. They are stirred up for the nations!!
As we wrap up our last week here at the Connections House in Rosarito, we are going to attend one of our favorite conferences in the whole world. Calvary Chapel Rosarito’s church planting conference. We are passionate about Evangelism, discipleship and church planting. We are excited to be able to attend this conference reuniting with the many church planters who know and love us. It is a great joy to hear of the wonderful works God has been doing in all of their church plants. We are also looking forward to the impact it will have upon our students. We will tell you more about that in our next newsletter.
Next week, Tim and I will be taking the students to the state of Sinaloa, where we will visit church plants in the cities of Culiacan, Mazatlan as well as go to the mountains to take the love of Jesus to an unreached Tribe the “Kuare” . We will be hiking to get there and camping at night, it will be cold and rainy and the students will definitely be stretched and we hope that the Lord will teach them through this new experience that going to any lengths to bring the gospel is worth the cost no matter what it may be.
Please pray for us in these next upcoming weeks for traveling mercies and what ever else the Lord places on your heart.
There are so many more blessings we look forward to telling you about in our time here at CSOM. We do want to share we were able to connect with some SGWM missionaries although it wasn’t the focus of this trip, the Lord had other plans and continues to open doors in our calling of missionary care.
We announced in our last newsletter we have a big announcement we want to tell you. Drum roll please.. After many many months of prayer & counsel, the Lord has lead us to make a decision for Jenn (I) to resign from Hoag Addiction Treatment Center to serve full time in ministry alongside my hubby Pastor Tim in missionary care and equipping at SGWM (Saving Grace World Missions). In these past few weeks the Lord has already confirmed our decision through conversations with others and things said, as well as financially and through His word. We strongly believe this is from the Lord. As we take this step of faith, being led by the Holy Spirit, we are so excited for these next steps in our lives. Please join us in prayer and rejoicing to our Lord for His continual guidance in our calling.
2 Timothy 1:9
9 who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
We want to close by thanking you all so much for your faithful friendship, love, and prayers throughout the years.
Prayer Requests:
Please pray for the 2023 Calvary School of Missions and for us as we travel to Sinaloa with the students. Jenn and I continue to be amazed at God’s grace and how through His power He allows us to participate in His plan for the gospel to go out to the whole world. (Mark 16:15)
As the director of missionary equipping here at Saving Grace World Missions, Tim’s role has many facets. Missionary care has been one of the main thrusts of the last six years, the way it looks changes frequently and has expanded into much more than we ever imagined.
Jenn has been able to join Tim in partnering in the ministry of missionary care more and more each month. Lately we have been able to be involved in field care for missionaries. We both got to go to a country we shall call South Asia for security reasons. This is a “closed country” but God does not believe in “closed countries”!! We were able to be there to assist in establishing one of our CSOM graduates to her new home and life as a full-time missionary.
- TJ in S. Asia -
A few months later, Tim got to travel with a team of pastors to relocate and establish four other missionaries in their new home in a Muslim country we shall not name for security reasons as well. This trip had a double blessing in it, one was that Tim got to see exactly where our team is planted. To be able to walk the streets they walk, smell the smells they smell, taste the food they eat, and yes, hear the sounds they hear. One of which is the demonic Islamic call to worship which echoes throughout the country several times a day.
This is of great benefit as we continue to minister to them having at least a little bit of a picture of where they are.
Local Mosque - 11 million lost in Islamic Worship
We have poured into these Calvary School of Missions graduates over the last four years. They shared how meaningful and valuable it was to them for us to be by their side as they permanently moved to other countries in the heart of the 10/40 window, leaving all of the comforts of America behind to further the gospel.
OTHER WAYS WE HAVE GOTTEN TO SERVE MISSIONARIES THIS YEAR:
Connecting with and caring for missionaries through technology. Counseling opportunities. Jenn has been consistently discipling the intern girls along with overseas counseling to some women on the field. Housing missionaries on furlough or preparing to go to the field. Providing transportation (rides and the use of our vehicle). Inviting them in our home for meals. Hosting events for them at our home. Ongoing intern care and discipleship. We love Missionary Care & Hospitality, Jenn describes it as a “heartfelt blessing”! We love blessing the missionaries when they pass through on furlough, providing housing, fellowship, and encouragement while they are are being refreshed.
“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality” - Romans 12:10-13
The sacrifices our sisters and brothers make for the furtherance of the gospel is very humbling. While we bless them with fellowship, shelter, and encouragement, they ultimately bless us more! Jenn said she gets so fired up each time she meets with them to hear what God has been doing on the mission field in 🇵🇪 🇺🇬 🇲🇽 🇷🇴 and beyond!
UPCOMING:
As we are only a few days away from launching the fifth Calvary School of Missions, there has been much to do. Having said that, we will try to give you a snapshot of what God allowed us to be a part of. As you can imagine, this was no small task; months and months and months of preparation went into this year including scheduling and interviewing potential students, teachers, and guest speakers, preparing curriculum and outreach opportunities, assembling a leadership team, organizing logistics of food, shelter, transportation, and much more. It is exhausting to even think of, let alone execute.
By God’s grace, on July 10, we were ready to go and had a beautiful send off from our home church and church planting hub, Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. Words cannot express how grateful we are to be part of a body that understands the importance of the evangelization and discipleship of all nations and whole heartedly gets behind the Calvary School of Missions.
We sent out several newsletters over the summer and don’t want to revisit things we already wrote about so we invite you to view our blog and see those past posts.
Wonderful Opportunities
Tim got to teach at several churches in Culiacan as well as at the first ever missions conference at Calvary Chapel Culiacan. The title of the conference was Mexico and Beyond and it was exciting for the students and staff to be part of church planting history. Pastor Hugo Limón allowed us to basically take over the church and run the whole conference and what a blessing it was as Pastor Hugo, Pastor Trent, Pastor Rob and Pastor Tim taught on the purpose of the church and the great need to reach the unreached nations of the world with the Gospel.
Fruit of the Ministry
As we return home and try to wrap up CSOM 2022, so much is yet to be done. We will bore you with those details another time, but we wanted to share that there is much fruit from the last four years of CSOM. It is yet to be seen what God will do in the lives of the young men and women that joined us this year, but we have eight students from years gone by that are on a path to be in the Middle East by spring 2023. There is a great work going on in a country we choose not to disclose for security purposes where God has opened up an incredible opportunity to start a base for church planting in the Middle East. These CSOM (Calvary school of missions) interns are currently in the process of transitioning to this country to begin language lessons and cultural immersion. We can’t believe God is allowing us to have a front row seat to see what He is going to do in the Muslim nations through CSOM. Another one of the interns will be moving to South Asia to join the work God has allowed us to be part of there and two others will be heading for Japan.
Tim and I are so blessed to be part of the Great Commission, serving together, supporting the youngsters in their callings, and training them up! Especially being able to serve alongside each other. We are happy to be home in our home church body, however, I ( Jenn ) especially enjoyed meeting more of our church body in Sinaloa, Mexico. While traveling and visiting the many church plants, I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 12:12-14.
Meeting new sisters and building the relationships already established was so heartfelt. Words can’t express how in awe I was to meet so many sisters in Christ and to see what our Great Lord has been doing in their lives and in the abundance of His blessings around their communities. We were far away from home, but being with our brothers and sisters, I felt as if I was home! We took the students on two outreaches to the Rosarito dump where Pastor Eddie from Calvary Chapel Homex, a church plant from CCR ministers to those living in the dump plaged with poverty, drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution and many other unmentionable sins bringing the hope of Jesus to the Homex community. We were also able to do a park outreach and Sunday church with him. Tim was able to connect with Gallo, a friend he made on our first years CSOM dump outreach. Gallo has been living in the dump for a long time, but came to faith in Christ four years ago and has been faithfully attending Calvary Chapel Homex. He walks 1 1/2 miles every Sunday. Although he still lives in the landfill, he is a new creation in Christ, loves the Lord and loves people. I’ve been thirsting for His presence and direction in our life. Don’t misunderstand me, our life is full of God‘s blessings and He continues to allow privileges and opportunities for us to serve Him. As many of you may know, my son Andy is choosing to be homeless and living in the streets of Orange County with mental illness, alcoholism, and drug addiction, and it’s very painful for my mother’s heart to watch. I am grateful for a very supportive and loving husband and, most importantly, our Father who continues to show up. We were recently able to connect with Andy on March 19, after not seeing him for five months. I see God using this season to deepen our faith and trust in Him. Hannah & Sarah in the Old Testament prayed & prayed for years and God fulfilled the desires of their hearts. Valentine’s Day has just passed and love is in the air and on the hearts of a lot of people so, naturally, we are seeking to make sure that people know of the greatest love ever; the love of God that transforms the soul through faith in Jesus Christ. Jenn and I have been having a great time every Thursday night hosting some of our church family for a mid-week life group. Conversations have been deep, the fellowship has been sweet and the focus has been on taking what we learned from God’s word on Sunday and sharing it with someone during the week.
Jenn and I continue to have the privilege of investing in the lives of 20 young adults who are interning with Saving Grace World Missions. They have come out of the Calvary School of Missions (CSOM) over the last three years and we are excited to say one of the interns is well on his way to serving in a Middle Eastern country. He just finished a three month internship in a Muslim country and is home for a brief stay before he is off to his final destination. I apologize for the cryptic nature of this information but the location in the Middle East is a sensitive one and I don’t want to jeopardize his security. I will say this though, God is doing a great work and hopefully we will see a Bible college and church plants birthed from this key location in the Middle East. Another intern is currently serving at one of our Bible college campuses in South Asia. Yet again the need for security is great and I am unable to share too many details but I wanted you all to know that the Lord is moving and teams are being built from these passionate servants of Jesus Christ who have committed themselves to the internship program in order to become better equipped to serve our Lord in the 10/40 window. It is important for you to know that this spiritual fruit will be credited to your account. Because of you, we have been able to disciple, equip, care for and love on these passionate world changers. Thank you so much for the many ways you support us in our work.
We started this update speaking of love, and there is something in the lives of two other 2019 CSOM graduates that we can be more specific on; we had the joyous opportunity to celebrate the wedding of Bryan and Andrea, a young couple who love each other deeply but love the Lord even more so. Jenn and I were there when they first started making “googly” eyes at each other at our very first school of missions and we are so glad that they ignored our no fraternization policy as the Lord brought this couple together. They are focused on and called to the Middle East as well but will be spending a season learning how to be a married couple. Please pray for them as the Lord grows them together.
Lastly, we wish to share that another exciting opportunity is in front of us as I lead a 15 person team to central Mexico for a church planting conference and to visit eight church plants. A lot of details go into preparing and leading a trip like this so please keep that in prayer. God is good and by His grace it is coming together nicely. The team departs for Mexico at the end of February and will be back in mid-March. Shortly after that we are anticipating being able to host a dessert gathering/update on all that the Lord has been doing in our lives and all of the wonderful ministry opportunities He has allowed us to engage in. We will keep you posted on that date and location as it draws nearer.
PRAISE REPORTS:
Praise our great God and King that –
1) God has allowed our son Andy’s whereabouts to be known to us three times last month
2) Jenn and I keep falling deeper and deeper in love
3) Our friendships and personal relationships keep growing deeper
PRAYER REQUESTS :
Please pray for –
Central Mexico trip Jenn while Tim is gone Andy to get the help he so desperately needs Again we want to thank you so much for your partnership with us as we seek to fulfill the great commission as well as reach the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We definitely hear the Lord speaking to us more to plant a church or partner alongside a team. We are surrendering and seeking God to know when? SEND US ! Until that time comes, we are committed to being faithful to what God has called us to right now.
Over the past few weeks we have had several privileges and opportunities to share the love of Jesus in the communities. You may be thinking to yourself what does the above picture have to do with saved lives? Well when we went to Calvary Homex, Pastor Eddie’s church he took us to a community he called “Beirut”, while we were scoping out the community and praying for where God could use us, this cactus on the top of this small dirt hill caught Jenn’s eye because purple is her favorite color. Jenn walked up on the hill to look closer at the cactus, (we wish we knew the name of it.) While Jenn was stooped down taking a picture, a thought came to Jenn’s heart & mind, “here is this cactus on this hill with weeds, debris & dirt and it has bloomed a beautiful color” in the middle of no where. God put it upon Jenn’s heart that even in the middle of a run down dysfunctional community, He can make all things new by changing their lives to know Jesus.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new - 1 Corinthians 5:17
The team worked hard creating a more secure area for the children to play. We provided paints for the children to paint on the tires. This was such a fun time watching the families and kids with huge smiles on their faces. After we completed arranging the tires around the playground we hosted an outreach with games, crafts, worship & testimonies.
The day was very productive, we blessed the community and shared the gospel with many souls.
We wish we had more time to come back to this community. Jenn already scoped out a slab to plant a church to help this community. Pastor Mike @ CCR has always said to dream big.
Please keep this community in your prayers.
Many lost souls and broken, dysfunctional families are there.
The community received bags of food, a hot meal & Bibles. The smiles on their faces were priceless. We only asked that they read the Bible every day and pray. We are going to keep this community in our prayers, there are a lot of lost souls and dysfunction within the families.
We both have spoken to several families and they tell us there is a lot of dysfunction with marriages & their children not respecting their parents. They need Jesus..Amen?
We have left out some things but want you to know lives are being reborn through the blood of Jesus! I Jenn have really been able to get my feet wet with so many outreaches, getting equipped for our church plant, being lead by a wonderful husband who loves Jesus. In the above picture Jenn is speaking to the women about how the Lord rescued her 13 years ago and sharing the gospel. Asking the ladies in particular how to pray for them. Lily is translating. I’m truly grateful for her. Lily is a returning student from Acapulco. I really enjoy serving with her and talking with the women. The Lord used my time working in the Women’s Rehab the past 10 years to prepare me for serving at this capacity. My heart is so heavy for these lost women! PRAYER REQUESTS
Pray for the next phase of our life & marriage, but most importantly that we continue to strengthen our trust & faith in God and stay faithful to the calling He has for us right now! Pray for God to provide financially as we take this step of faith. Jenn’s job ended enabling her to join me this summer. But that means we won’t get a paycheck during this summer. Please pray that all our needs are met and that we can raise the finances needed to sustain us. Pray for Jenn’s physical condition as she is still recovering from her surgery.
PRAISE REPORTS
We have witnessed close to 20 people giving their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ so far. Great relationships are being built with church planters here in Mexico. There has been great unity amongst the school
Thanks again for taking the time to read our updates on how the Lord is using us for His Glory. It has only been 2 weeks and we have already been able to pour into the hearts of these young men & women. One way I (Jenn) have been able to build up rapport with a few students is by taking early morning walks before devotionals. Talking to these young ladies and building a relationship and trust by pouring Jesus upon them. One of the students mentioned how she has realized the way she had been living at home was a lie. Another student expressed her concerns when she returned home, how she would be judged by her faith. Listening to theses students hearts and pouring into them, has been edifying to them and myself. These students are truly pumped up for reaching the nations. We are so excited to see what the Lord has in store for all these students as they continue to open their heart to the teachings of His Word by the SGWM (Saving Grace World Missions) pastors.
This past week we have had the opportunity to visit a dump ministry where Pastor Eddie Mijares from CCHomex began ministry several years ago. This dump has a variety of men & women living at this dump in exchange for work. Most of the men and women living at this dump are addicted to drugs & alcohol and have debts to pay. They work in exchange to paying their debts and cannot leave until these debts are paid off. As we were walking around the dump, I saw small shacks that were made out of cardboard and scrap wood. We prayed as we approached their living arrangements for divine appointments to preach the gospel into their hearts. There were a few women and men that received the gospel and one woman received Jesus into her heart and had the desire to leave the dump and receive help for her addiction. Pastor Eddie had to pay her debt off which was not a lot and was taken to the women’s rehab. A few days later we heard a man decided he wanted out of that life and was able to leave the dump as well.
Sharing the gospel and praying for the people in the community.
And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, but as it is written - Romans 15:20-21
It has been such an awesome week, We are speechless at the work of our King. We were able to pour into the people at the dump, pray for them and encourage them. Most of the people at the dump have been there for awhile and know other way to live. CC Homex will continue to minister to this community with the hope of Jesus. We are also very frustrated and challenged with the many lost souls who are denying Jesus. We continue to walk by faith and not by sight, praying for the lost. We have faith that the people at the dump will be saved!
We also had the privilege of visiting Pastor Jose Luis & Cindy Pesina’s church “Gracia del Calvario” Vista del Valle, Tijuana. We began setting up for an outreach at a near by dirt park with games, food, a teaching from the Word, pouring into the community with the love of Jesus. We handed out food bags for the community with Bibles, hot dogs, testimonies, a Teaching from the Word of God. We also had the opportunity to evangelize on the street, pray for the community.
The students are being stretched and used in mighty ways. We have seen such growth in all of them by stepping out in faith doing the uncomfortable things such as face painting, crafts, teaching in front of a large crowd. God is transforming these students into future disciples right before our eyes. How cool is this! We get to be a part of this amazing school.
It was a huge blessing to serve at Gracia del Calvario. Tim and a student witnessed to a young man in the park off to the side sitting alone with a pipe in his hand, barely surviving. Tim shared his testimony, prayed for him, and gave him a Bible. Later, we saw the man riding off on his skateboard with the Bible in his hand. Our first thought was “he kept the Bible” - we pray he will read it and receive Jesus! Another opportunity came up where a woman wanted prayer, a few of the students along with Pastor Jose Luis prayed with the woman and she began vomitting. It was evident she had a demon inside of her. They continued to pray for her through this and she wanted to live a life with Jesus.
A little girl came up to me (Jenn) before we left the park and asked when were we coming back. I gave her a hug and shared how much Jesus loves her and to go home and invite her family to church.
We ended the day by spending time with the youth at Gracia del Calvario by playing worship, one of the CSOM students shared their testimony and the ladies at church provided enchiladas for dinner. They were so yummy! We were all blessed by good fellowship & food. Cindy & Pastor Jose Luis shared their testimony on how they were called to the mission field.
We (Tim and I) are ecstatic to be here in Mexico together leading, training & pouring into these students. We are so blessed. Year one and year two students are teaming with testimonies of how God has touched their lives, stretching them and molding them in amazing ways
Each year has had its unique set of highs and lows, challenges and victories that God was faithful to see us through. We are sure this year will be no different and are looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us. One of the foreseeable highs that we want to share with you is that this year Jenn will be joining Tim for the whole six weeks! Jenn has not been able to go for more than a week at a time the last two years and as many of you know this has been such a difficult, but worthwhile, sacrifice. Year one we were newly engaged and year two we were newly married. Jenn made such a sacrifice and was so supportive, but being apart for six weeks each year was by far the hardest thing we went through together. So please rejoice with us this year as the Lord has answered over two years worth of prayer and made a way for Jenn to be there. You have already been such a big part of our calling and our walk and we feel this will be another great way to partner with you in the great commission.
Jenn continues to lead a growth group with women studying the Bible together and growing through the Word of God. Tim continues to get teaching opportunities and is growing in his ability to teach God’s word Tim’s sister accepted Jesus into her heart is on fire for Him and is attending Calvary Albuquerque. We are so thankful for your prayers and your support both financially and emotionally. We shudder to think what it would be like trying to do this without you and we need you now more than ever. We are in need of people who wish to partner with us financially and are so grateful for you who have already joined us in this area. She is still very focused on serving in the 10/40 window amongst unreached people groups and we are going to do all we can to assist her.
The second leg of our journey was to Mazatlan to visit Calvary Chapel Maranatha, a church plant from one of our church plants, Calvary Chapel Rosarito. We got to take part in their church planting conference and visit one of our missionaries there as well. Wow, what a ride! Thank you for joining us on this journey, you are a huge part of what we do. One of the joys of 2020 has been our ability to continue to care for missionaries worldwide. God has definitely given Jenn and me a heart of compassion and the gift of caring for others that He allows us to use for His glory. It was exciting to see God’s confirmation over the last few months that we are not to go anywhere, we are to continue on assignment, pouring into and fortifying missionaries around the world as well as equipping missionaries on their way to the field.
In the last month we have been able to touch base with workers from Mexico, Brazil, and Cambodia to pray with them, encourage them and see how their ministries are going.
I (Tim) also had the chance to be part of a team leading the youth mission trip to Mexico. It is so important to allow junior high and high schooler’s to see and experience ministry cross culturally. They say, and it’s true, that short term missions do not change the world but they do create world changers. Please pray for the youth of CC Saving Grace that they would get God’s heart for the nations and the furtherance of the gospel through these short term trips. We are planning on making several more in 2021.
An unexpected lesson came to us over the last few weeks that we are still in the midst of learning. This is that care is a two-way street. As some of you know, Jenn has had a long time degenerative disc issue and spinal stenosis. Mid-November she went in for surgery and the recovery has been quite hard. During this time so many people have been praying for her, for us, bringing over food, helping with laundry and other chores around the house or just being willing to check on us and see how we’re doing. This humbling blessing has brought with it many lessons. It has allowed us to see how hard it is for us to receive, it has allowed us to see how many people love us, it has allowed us to be on the receiving end and we thank you all so much.
PRAISE REPORT :
Praise God that Jenn’s surgery went well. We posted last month in our newsletter that our support has gotten so low we had to stop payroll; we are still extremely short in our monthly income but by Gods grace and through much prayer of yours, ours, and many others God has made it evidently clear that we are to stay on the field, that we cannot leave our post. Missionaries must be cared for!! Serving as a stateside Missionary and being 100% dependent upon the Lord moving the hearts of financial partners has definitely been a challenge, but only for us, not for Him. Thank you so much to those of you who have heard the Lord’s voice and decided to partner with us to enable us to continue serving missionaries all around the world. We are still at quite a deficit to meet our monthly needs, however, I’m confident the Lord will provide.
I mentioned last month that we would tell more about the Calvary School of Missions (CSOM) and the absolutely incredible opportunity to serve that has unfolded in front of us. For the second year in a row, I (Tim) have had the opportunity to coordinate and oversee the Calvary School of Missions. This has led to a re-definition of my job description and an even deeper level of missionary care. I am officially now the Director of Missionary Equipping for Saving Grace World Missions. Part of my heart was torn because I truly still stand on the fact that Missionary care is the calling that God has upon my life, through prayer and seeking the Lord in His Word, I’ve been assured that I will still be caring for missionaries on the field as well as caring for those on their way to the field. This has taken missionary care in a direction I never even thought of but it’s just like our God to do exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or think. Way too much is happening to write about in an update letter so I would invite you to contact me so we can sit down for a cup of coffee or have a conversation over the phone. I can’t wait to share more of all the Lord is doing.
CSOM Ministering at Indian Reservation
Students in Roof Top prayer seeking God
One of the Younges t
She is a 16-year-old who joined us for CSOM 2020. Each one of the students is incredibly special in their own way but I want to highlight a few of them as I catch you all up on what has happened over the summer. This young lady came to us on her own accord with her own money saying “the Lord has called me to missions.” Before you get overly concerned she has two loving parents whom I’ve spoken to and prayed with on several occasions, they are 100% behind her and us and are confirming the clear call upon her life. So she arrives from another country to California and journeys with us to Mexico for a six week school where the fire in her eyes and conviction in her heart just grew stronger. This young lady will be completing high school at the end of this year, her parents along with her and the pastors here at Saving Grace World Missions will be seeking the Lord on how to best equip her for the work she is called to.
One of the First
Let me tell you of one of the first, he is a young man who went to CSOM 2019. It has been my joy to be a part of his discipleship and training here in the intern program. I love being able to have a front row seat to see what the Lord is doing in this sharp young man’s life. He definitely has a clear call of pastoring and in a couple months will be going to a Middle Eastern country where he can learn language and culture in steps towards reaching the 10/40 window with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
These are two extremely short stories of students who have come to the Calvary School of Missions and there are many more like them. Young men and women who understand the importance of the furtherance of the gospel to a lost and dying world. Men and women who are willing to be trained up, equipped, and sent. Thank you for partnering with us and helping us to stay engaged in the great commission. Together we are doing the work. John Piper once wrote “Go, Send, or Disobey.” I love that statement because the reality is that those are our three choices. Not all of us can get on an airplane and head to faraway lands but we can all be a part of equipping and sending those who can. Thank you for partnering with us, without your support we cannot continue in this ministry. We realize we need to depend upon God, but we have yet to see him drop a bag of money out of the sky. God has a way of doing exceedingly abundantly beyond what we ask or think and He has a way of getting His will accomplished that, quite frankly, blows my mind. Year two of CSOM went incredibly well but it wasn’t without challenge, sacrifice, and hard work. Jenn and I have both realized something in life: challenges, hard work, and sacrifice are good for us and this year was no exception.
We want to thank you all for your prayers, love, emotional support, and even financial backing as we stepped out this year to join 12 students in exploring the call God has on their lives for the furtherance of the gospel around the world. We were joined by teachers, leaders, and missionaries who have served all around the world. One of the highlights was watching the lights come on and the truths of God’s word come to life for the students as the teachers taught over 150 hours worth of the lessons they learned from serving our Lord in foreign countries and the truths of God’s word that held them strong and fueled their ministries.
Another one of the highlights came in the form of what I call a double blessing. As I navigated putting together outreaches amidst a world pandemic we realized the focus quickly needed to shift to COVID relief. We did some street witnessing, worked at some local churches, and even helped Calvary Chapel Rosarito at their church planting conference but the main focus of the majority of outreach was food distribution. Of course as we did that we took opportunity for prayer and sharing the gospel with the communities.
The double blessing was first of all having the open door to go into communities and share the word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ, and second, meeting the physical needs through the generous donations of those who had contributed to Calvary Chapel Saving Grace’s COVID relief fund. Outreach this year was so different from last year but then again everything is during this time we are living in. One thing was the same, Jesus Christ! He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore and we have great hope in Him that we share with the rest of the world.
So much happened in six weeks that our focus for the next few updates will be to continue sharing about this summer and the Calvary School of Missions. Of course we will also let you know what’s going on in our personal lives and ministry here at saving Grace World Missions. Speaking of that, I hate to end such a positive update on a low note but Jenn and I have a personal need that I’ve come to realize we owe it to you all to share. My (Tim’s) income here at Saving Grace World Missions is 100% supporter funded, this is a fact that I don’t share with many people. I am grateful beyond belief for those the Lord has provided to partner with Jenn and I but my financial support has dropped so low I have had to discontinue my payroll here. As much as I really don’t want to, I’ve come to understand I need to ask for help. We need help, we need financial supporters, people who are able and willing to partner with us in the work the Lord is doing through us at Saving Grace World Missions. Calvary School of Missions year two.
I will admit last year, 2019, when we launched the pilot program CSOM there were many including myself at times who thought it was a crazy idea that could not be done. I will also admit I was wrong and they were wrong. The Lord had placed CSOM on the hearts of leadership here at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace and the Lord is never wrong. Last year he worked in amazing ways in all of our lives; the young students as well as leaders and teachers. On top of the “in the moment experience,” there has been much long-lasting fruit from last year’s school.
We currently have five young interns from CSOM 2019 who have been trained up in the school as well as a year-long intern program I was able to lead bringing them to the place they are today, poised and ready to go to the nations. They have locations they are going and are in the final stages of preparing to go to bring the nations the gospel of Jesus Christ. They will be working in the 10/40 window amongst the most unreached of the world and we were blown away to have had a front-row seat to see what the Lord is doing in and through them in the CSOM.
Even though it looks way crazier than last year, Jenn and I are expecting CSOM 2020 to be equally incredible and fruitful. One of the main differences in our lives is that we are married and although last year she was of great support, this year she is all in. I’m so grateful she will be able to be on the trip this year and I’m so grateful for the many ways she partners with me in ministry. I will be gone for six weeks of which Jenn only gets to be with me for 10 days due to our need for her to still work. Jenn has partnered with me in so many ways preparing for this school, please pray for us as we will be apart for an extended period for the first time. She is a fantastic partner on the field and even though being apart from each other will be difficult we are totally convinced that pouring into future missionaries to send around the world is worth the hardship.
We appreciate your prayers and are so grateful for you who have already joined us in this area. I would invite and enjoy it if you would connect with me for a more in-depth personal discussion. Since February when this most bizarre pandemic hit our world, our/my God has shown me that He doesn’t do social distancing. Every step of the way, every new twist God has been there. For many, this has been a time to be able to slow down but for myself and the rest of the pastoral staff here at Saving Grace World Missions, things got kicked into high gear. Technology has become a vital tool for me, all be it a very frustrating one due to not understanding it well, but it has still been very valuable. Personal contact has always been so important to me. Whether it’s face-to-face or telephone, but during this time I have been able to connect with our missionaries around the world on the various video chat platforms. In this season I have found myself able to care for missionaries around the world more than ever.
One thing’s for sure, broken lives, confused and lost individuals, fear, uncertainty, anger, frustration, and anxiety have not been on lockdown due to COVID-19. As a matter of fact, the scattered and shut down ministries have only exasperated this. People are still in need of lots of counsel, hope, and comfort that is only found in the word of God. By the grace of God and your partnership, I am grateful that I have been in a position to offer that.
COVID-19 can’t stop The Gospel and it can’t stop us. Jenn is still ministering at full speed as well, leaving the house every day with a great attitude, facing ministry with women who already make unhealthy life choices and are at high risk of exposure. She told me one morning when leaving that she has to go, how else would these ladies hear the word of God and receive the tools they need to stay sober.
Again I would love to speak with you in person because there is just too much to put in one update. I would love to share about unique Sunday services teaching morning devotionals, couples devotionals, Bible college teachings in south Asia and so much more the Lord has allowed us to be a part of in the midst of a world-wide pandemic.
It’s crazy to think of unless you realize how big our God is.
Now more than ever we are in need of people who wish to partner with us financially. Jenn and I were able to attend the Calvery Chapel missions conference which is always been a great treat for me. To be able to share it with my bride and ministry partner this year was like having my cake and eating it too. Being able to see old friends and meet new ones from all around the world really helped re-solidify the calling God has upon our lives. The feedback that I’ve gotten from every missionary I’ve talked to is that the ministry God has given us is so important. Some of them with tear-filled eyes tried to express their joy and gratitude for someone to care for them in the way the Lord has led us to do. Missionaries need care, missionaries are not super-spiritual Christian all-stars. Missionaries are normal people with normal hurts, fears, and issues. To let them know they are not forgotten and minister to them in every and any way that we can is our great passion and a God-given gift to us.
Another one of the multi-faceted ways we have been able to care for missionaries so far this year was in the assembling of a team to help process year-end tax statements of donations. As we folded letters, stuffed and sealed envelopes, stamped, and delivered them to the post office, I was reminded of God’s great faithfulness and provision for His missionaries and our privilege to care for them in this way.
There was so much more that could be shared about in this month. Just to mention a few was the sending of more than 15 people to the mission field, leading a trip to Mexico to deliver furniture to a special-needs orphanage there, and being able to teach Chapel three times in South Asia.
Praise Report:
Praise God that Tim now has really good health insurance for only $160 a month. We are so grateful for that, however, we are seeking assistance to help cover that cost. We are also in need of financial assistance to cover the costs of providing care for missionaries. It’s hard enough to believe we’re heading into a new year let alone a new decade. My hope and prayers are that we would all seek the Lord with our whole heart leaning not on our own understanding but acknowledging Him in all that we do knowing that He will direct our path.
December 2019 closed out in an incredibly unexpected way. God continues to show me His amazing sovereignty and incredible ability to run my life if I will just let him. Last month I had shared with you all some of the frustrations I was experiencing and the place of acceptance I had come to inside of it. I truly believe that acceptance is the key, accepting that God is sovereign, accepting that I don’t always get my way, accepting that I don’t know what’s best in my life or the lives of others.
As the title of this update reflects, acceptance is the key but surrender is the action that shows I’ve come to a place of acceptance. You see when I’m having trouble excepting things the Lord is doing in my life it’s because I am truly not surrendered to His all knowing all loving and capable will for my life. To steal a line from an old hymn I must
Trust And obey for there’s no better way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey
I truly believe the Lord has called me to missionary care however I have been struggling to recognize all of the aspects of that. Once I came into this place of recognizing my limited understanding of His desire and calling upon my life I have been much freer to do the ministry and the work the Lord had right in front of me, in closing
out 2019 I focused on doing my best to honor the Lord through serving and pouring into the missionaries in training here in our intern program at Saving Grace World Missions. It’s incredible how much freedom and joy I have found since then. The Lord has also seen fit since my coming to a place of acceptance to allow me to re-engage close to a dozen establish missionaries in the field giving me a reminder that what He originally had called me too was not out of the picture, just not fully understood
In closing I want to share that it has been a joy to partner with Jenn my wife, best friend and ministry partner over the last month. She has many incredible gifts one of which is the gift of hospitality which is right in line with the heart God is given me. Since moving to the Yorbalinda area we have had close to 25 people in our home for food and fellowship.
To share food and fellowship with friends and family has been such a joy but even more joyful has been to watch Jenn operate in the calling God has on her life to love Him and love others. Thank you all so much for your prayers, Love and support through 2019 and I’m excited to see what the Lord has for us all in 2020.
We are still in need of people who wish to partner with us financially. I do have to confess since then it has been quite an interesting season.
For a period of that time, quite frankly, I was asking myself what am I doing here?
This was the question, this has been the struggle. As I have returned to work here in the SGWM (Saving Grace World Missions) home office, fulfilling my duties as the Assistant Director as well as my role as associate pastor at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace, I’ve asked myself a lot of questions. What am I doing here, why am I sitting in hours of meetings, why am I answering phones, why am I chasing emails, why am I dealing with traffic? Why, why, why? Well, a few answers became clear to me.
First of all because this is what God has called me to for this season. Even though my heart longs to be in the field and to be in the lives of missionaries, God has called me for the time being to pour into them from afar and take short visits to them.
Secondly, God has entrusted to my care several young men and women from the school who are now interning with us. Sowing, that’s what!
The farmer doesn’t get to only water, the farmer doesn’t get to only harvest; he gets to do the hard work of sowing as well. It has been difficult at times as I left my fiancé, Jenn at home but both of us see the sacrifice being well worth it. I spent the last six weeks watching seven young men and women seek the Lord for His will for their lives. The Calvary school of missions was a six-week intensive Missions training School focused on education in the morning hours, teaching students the Biblical philosophy of missions, cross-cultural ministry, church planting techniques, and so much more. The afternoons were filled with various types of outreach, homework, and lessons in self-care and relationship building.
As the title of this update reflects, the unexpected twist in missionary care is that my focus has been on caring for missionaries in the field, I still truly believe this is the call the Lord has upon my life, however, as usual, His view is so much bigger than mine. Our goal was to shed some light on the way SGWM gets to be used by the Lord in the Great Commission
All of us on the panel received an overwhelmingly positive response. Time after time, people expressed to me that they had no idea of all works SGWM was involved in. All I could keep thinking to myself was “that’s what I said.” I had no idea when I first came on with SGWM how many areas of our missionaries lives this organization touches and how much there is to do in caring for them. I have had a front row seat to see the power of God in the transformation of men’s lives as we worked through the trauma, grief, abuse, neglect, and various other issues that arise from lives lived in rebellion to God. I have had the privilege of seeing men turn their lives back to the Lord, or come to Him for the first time ever, and get set free from the grip of the enemy and the bondage of sin.
Several Years ago the Lord began to provoke my heart with the great need of the nations for the gospel. Not fully knowing what to do with this, I began the journey on a path of short-term mission trips where it became clear to me that the Lord was calling me to full-time engagement in His great commission both in over sea’s ministry as well as here in the states. I have been able to travel to India 3 times, Haiti 3 times, Nepal, Belize, and Mexico over 30 times. During these trips, I’ve been able to teach the word of God in School of Ministry settings, do local outreaches, engage in feeding programs, medical clinics, orphanage work etc, all while sharing the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
Here In the states, I’ve been able to be involved in outreach to the Muslim community through door to door witnessing in refugee communities, street witnessing outside of Mosques and leading a team of 10 to Phoenix, Arizona for a week-long trip to there Arabic festival. For over five years now I have also had the privilege of pastoring two church plants in Alzheimer units in Yorba Linda, CA. I have also been able to engage in inner-city outreaches in Watts, CA, street witness and evangelize at malls, beaches, and parks. Two weeks ago I lead a team to Texas for disaster relief of Hurricane Harvey and this weekend I will lead a team of 14 young adults (some not so young) to Rosarito Mexico.
All this is not to give me glory or credit, but to give glory to our Great God and King who wishes that none should perish. The God who desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth, has allowed me to take part in the furtherance of the Gospel… WOW.
A few months ago I stepped out of my 17-year career and moved forward in what I believe was a call from the Lord that took place several years ago. This call was to be directly involved in overseas missions. At first, I was sure that I was headed overseas to plant a church. But, in what I believe to be the sovereign hand of God, the door opened for me to serve full-time at Saving Grace World Missions. I am now involved in cross-cultural missions and directly involved in the lives of missionaries as the Assistant Director. Daily I work towards serving and equipping missionaries to share the Gospel around the world. I will also continue to lead short-term mission teams both stateside and abroad. This kind of schedule and ministry enables me to stay in the states to care for my elderly mom with Alzheimer’s and, at the same time, move forward in the call God has on my life in this new season. All of this is a step of faith for me and I am now actively in the process of raising support. This is also something new to me and I would ask that each of you would pray for me as I seek to raise enough funds to provide for my daily necessities, local outreaches, and short-term missions trips. I truly appreciate your prayers as I continue to seek the Lord and His will for my life.
There are two ways you could partner with me in this ministry.
First, through prayer and signing up for my monthly email updates on my blog. I rejoice in the fact that the Lord rescued me from the Orange County jail cell where I was a physical and psychological mess and chose to set this sucked up ex-con on a path for His glory. October is not only a month that I celebrate salvation, sobriety and being returned to my right mind but it’s also a month that Jenn and I celebrate one year of our relationship. Reaching out and connecting with missionaries is really the heartbeat of the calling God placed upon my life. It’s also been a month full of connecting with old friends and making new ones. Thank you for everybody who prayed for me on this trip and for those who financially supported me. Both of these acts of love are vitally important and provided me the ability to do this. I’m grateful for all of you and it was an incredible trip. God has a great work in store for Calvary Chapel Oaxaca, please keep them in your prayers.
Lastly, in a few sentences, I will try to explain what a joy we had during our front yard Halloween outreach parties. On a dark and wicked night where evil is glorified and most people who love the Lord turn out the lights and lock the front doors, I’m grateful to be involved in a church who steps up to the frontline and punches holes in the darkness with the light of the world and the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. We had a front yard party in the name of Jesus where we supplied tons of candy, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, water, and coffee to anyone who came by absolutely free. Oh yes, and of course a bounce house. But the best thing about this night, on a night where everyone is looking for something, we were able to share with them the gospel and the love of Christ.
Thank you all so much for your faithful prayer support and financial partnership, both of these make it possible for me to fulfill the call that God has upon my life to encourage and strengthen missionaries, to preach the Gospel, and to love those who He loves.
There are two ways you could partner with me in this ministry:
First, through prayer and signing up for my monthly email updates on my blog: sgwm.com/pappas Secondly, by becoming a financial partner with me in the Gospel: By clicking on the “become a financial partner” button found here or on my blog You can also send a check to Saving Grace World Missions 17451 Bastanchury Rd. Even though over the last year I have been able to be involved in this in incredible ways, it now seems as though the whole world has just opened up to me.
Please pray for:
Stability as I continue to walk through the grief Wisdom as I move forward in the call That my ear would be acutely tuned to the voice of the Master I truly appreciate your prayers as I continue in seeking the Lord’s will for me. I am still in need of people who wish to partner with me financially. I am most appreciative of you who have joined me in this area, and I’m grateful that I have reached 1/4 of my monthly support needs. Clearly, we matter to the Lord, for when we were dead in our trespasses and sins Christ died for us. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever (me) would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. I am so grateful for the people that I have in my life and the people that I have been able to meet as I have journeyed forth in this calling the Lord has placed on my life. The Lord has been impressing upon my heart how much people matter. It might seem hard to believe but in ministry, I have found that I can get so busy with tasks, moving from one project to another, that I blow right past the people the Lord has put in my path to minister to or even those He wants to use to minister to me. Sometimes I feel like Martha and I have to remember what the Lord said to her, that she had been distracted by serving. In a new and deeper way the Lord has put on my heart the importance of people, the importance of relationships, the importance of community and I value you all so much.
As I minister to and connect with missionaries all around the world, I hear the same thing from them, that me connecting with them means so much to them. As I reach out to those who have gone out, I use a variety of approaches, such as, email, phone calls, Skype, Facebook messenger, and personal visits. The overwhelming response of appreciation is confirmation that I am doing what the Lord has called me to. The Lord truly has called me to be a missionary to the missionaries.
I’ve been especially blessed to be able to spend time with missionaries who have come to the states on furlough. Each one of them has told me how much it would mean if SGWM would come visit them. This confirms to me the importance of short-term missions. We have all heard that short-term missions don’t change the world but I believe that they do create world changers. Another benefit of short-term mission trips is the edification, exhortation and encouragement of those on the field. Emails are good, FaceTime is fine, but I believe nothing replaces sitting in their living rooms with them and sharing their lives with them.
I have known since before I started here at SGWM that this was the Lord’s desire and plan for me and I am excited to see what He is going to do in and through me in this area.
I truly appreciate your prayers as I continue to move forward in seeking the Lord’s will for me. A few weeks back I had a starry-eyed Holy Spirit filled Jesus loving new believer, (a young man at our church who shall remain nameless) look at me one day with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen and declared to me “you have the best job ever,” and you know what? He’s right.
I used to think I had the best job in the whole world as I labored to walk men out of the deceptive tragedy that drugs and alcohol addiction brings to a persons life. I had a front row seat to see what the Lord could do in a man’s life if they would only surrender all to Him. Now don’t get me wrong, to a large degree I still think that I had the best job in the whole world working at Pacific Hills treatment center, but God has now allowed me to participate in an even greater calling on a global level.
I don’t know how to adequately represent what has gone on over the last few months as I engage in God’s call upon my life and as I get to participate in the furtherance of the gospel around the world. One aspect of my job that excites me to no end is that I am able to serve missionaries who are ministering to completely unreached people groups. My role so far is to assist in directing the administration portion of Saving Grace world missions as well as participating on an active level in missionary care. I reach out to missionaries and help to build bridges between them and the Home office, letting them know that they are not forgotten or alone out there while sharing the love of Christ and strengthening them and they’re calling. I am apart of an incredible team of men and women who are serving our missionaries. This team is comprised of folks who assist missionaries in the area of pastoral care, administration, missionary training, social media and public relations, financial management, counseling and all around personal care for those that sacrifice so much to reach those who do not know the Lord Jesus and have no assurance of salvation.
In Closing, I would like to praise the Lord for those that He is brought alongside of me as financial partners in this calling. I Thank you all so much for your generous support, love, and prayers. Thanks to you I am nearly 1/4 the way to meeting my monthly needs. Again I see this as exceedingly abundantly above what I can even ask or think as this has been one of the most difficult areas of growth for me in asking for help. Thank you all so much and a very Merry Christmas to you.

https://archive.sgwm.com/pappas/pappas/2017/12/22/time-flies-by/

First of all, let me wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it’s so true!
