There is no fear, as it says in Psalm 27, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
We celebrated Jesus’ birth in our church on December 25th with a special service–a beautiful drama by some of the children about the true meaning of Christmas, a special song, and then a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. These special occasions are very important to us, as they draw in the parents. (They come to church to see their children). Our hope is that they see Jesus, and surrender their lives to Him!
We have demolished our kitchen and are in the process of building a new multipurpose room that will also serve as our soup kitchen. God has provided all the funding for the entire project! This will especially help for when it’s cold and rainy to be able to eat indoors.
The children of our church and the surrounding community were blessed by a special Christmas party. It was kind of like a drive-thru party due to Covid restrictions here. We had 10 children come every half hour, so it was a very long but fruitful day. They first made a craft and had a lesson on the birth of Jesus, then received goodies and gifts that friends provided stateside. For many of the children, it is their only gift, so it was very exciting for them. They also left knowing that the greatest gift to us is Jesus, and He is the true reason for the season!
The kids in Tijuana are still not in school due to Covid, and their online school has ceased as the teachers are on strike due to lack of funds, (they are not paying them)!, so the afterschool program is their only “school” for now! Our focus is Jesus, Mathematics and Reading. They attend three days per week, and absolutely love coming. It is a safe place where they feel loved, are heard, receive a hot meal, have “school”, and learn about Jesus and His great love for them.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
For all who are suffering with illness and loss in these crazy times that we are living in–that Jesus would be their comfort and strength.
For the parents of the 40 children in our afterschool program to come to Christ!
For vision, and God’s direction and guidance in the running of the afterschool program / soup kitchen. We would like to expand it but are in need of volunteers.
For the saints to come back to church! Many have slipped away and are just not interested in attending church.
That I would please God always in all that I do, say, and think. This has been a great blessing for our families as many are out of work and literally have no food!
April 30th in Mexico is “Día del Niño” (Kid’s Day), and is a huge celebration honoring all of the kids (and there are many)! We were not able to have our big party this year, so we received some donations of clothes and toys from our dentist friend and were able to bless the kids, all 40 of them received something. Just seeing their smiles brightened our day!
We collaborated with Calvary Chapel Tijuana in blessing all of the front line workers here in Tijuana–doctors, police officers, fire-fighters, ambulance drivers, and even patients with medical supplies. We received a donation of 15,000 face shields, 12,000 face masks, 15,000 gloves, hand sanitizers, cleaning supplies, three medical tents, and 30 plastic folding chairs , so the entire church body came together to make the face shields. It was a great opportunity for many to serve and keep busy during this time, and it blessed the workers, as you can imagine, tremendously, as they don’t have these supplies. They have to purchase them with their own funds.
I am reading Bible stories on facebook live to the kids every day at 12:00. My prayer is to reach the kids and their parents for the gospel. Our church here in Tijuana has sent out various church plants and I came alongside 13 saints and offered to do teacher training. The theme of the entire trip, and the Pastors/leaders conference in Cuernavaca, was the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
Guadalajara was our first stop. Pastor Alfonso Lopez pastors CC Guadalajara, and his family has joined he and his wife there to minister. They have a soup kitchen where they feed up to 80 kids four days per week! We were able to serve alongside them for one day in the soup kitchen. I also gave a workshop called, “Teaching children about the Holy Spirit.
Calvary Chapel Guadalajara Soup Kitchen
Next stop was CC Michoacan with Pastor Rogelio Barragan and family. We helped paint the entire church as well as gave all the teachers a break by teaching for them so that they were able to sit in the service and hear the Word. I gave a workshop to the teachers about discipline in the classroom and at home. About 15 were baptized also, and of course we all had a time of fellowship with delicious food.
Next, we made our way to Mexico City where Pastor Toño Garcia pastors C.C. Ecatepec. He and his wife Beth gave us a warm welcome and we experienced agape love with his congregation. Again, saints were baptized, teachers were instructed, and great fellowship took place.
Our final stop was Cuernavaca where the annual Pastors / Leaders Conference was held for all of the Calvary Chapels in South Mexico. There was great teaching by many and it was so nice to see old friends and make new ones too. We stayed at a very beautiful place called “El Monte” up in the hills, and had a sweet time of ministering to one another.
I can’t tell you how blessed I was to be a part of this Missions Trip. We are in a new year, 2020, and the vision of this year from our pastor to all of us at CC Pedregales, is to reach, disciple, and send out others, and to have 20/20 vision–clear vision from the Lord in all that we do for Him!
I was blessed to be able to attend this year’s Mission’s Conference at Murrieta Hot Springs, and what a great conference it was. It’s always nice seeing old friends and making new ones. To hear how God is working all around the globe–well, there’s nothing quite like that! Definitely, the best conference of the year for me!
Our after school program, “Amigos del Rey” (Friends of the King), is still what takes most of my time, and I love these kids more every day! The library is a hit, (they are loving the books). We just saw a movie, “The Little Prince,” and I had my class do a journal entry in their journals, and they are improving so much in their writing skills, I am so proud of them! A sixth grader asked me recently how and when to use commas. Her teachers have never taught her this and she’s going into Jr. High! I sometimes assume that they know these basic concepts but they don’t! It’s still not too late to donate a book to add to our library. Just click above on the link that says “donate a book to Amigos del Rey.” (You can also choose a used book in good condition from the list).
The parents of the kids have mandatory meetings every three months, and the next one will be a little different. We received a donation, and so we decided to bless them with a fancy dinner and gospel message from our pastor. They have heard the gospel many times, but they simply don’t want to give up their lifestyle of sin! We know, however, that God has His perfect timing, and we just continue sharing the love of Jesus with them and God is in charge of the rest.
I continue to disciple young adult single gals from our church; currently, there are 5, and it is a great blessing! We are becoming close and being able to share and pray together intimately is something very special to me. They all know that when they finish the class, they each will take a girl and do the same: disciple them. I’m excited to see how God will use them in the future.
There is currently construction going on here. We are making the children’s play area a little bit bigger by shortening our basketball court. (It was huge). This will be nice for the kids, as the trash area will also be separate from the play area instead of a part of it! I am praying for a brand new playground structure for the kids.
As I’m sitting here writing this post, it is 39 degrees outside and I have a new heater! I’ve never had heat here before and it is so nice to finally have one. It was a blessing from a friend, and I know it’s not much, but it’s the little things sometimes that mean so much. It was a delicious meal prepared by some of the men of the church.
We were affected by the recent fires in Tijuana, the picture below is my neighborhood, and the fire that you see burning damaged 5 properties, affecting in total about 45 people. The house that was completely burned to the ground, (dogs and all), was a family from our church. They are currently living here at our church and rebuilding their house with donations that have come in by many gracious people. We are also helping the other families with food and clothing and some funds as well. We are showing the love of Jesus and the people are responding positively.
I have just begun discipling these young single gals and it is wonderful. I wanted to share a little bit with you about what the Lord has been doing in my life here at CC Pedregales in these last few months.
I am still overseeing the Children’s Ministry here at CCP (Calvary Chapel Pedregales). We average about 60 kids on Wed. and Sun. services. I am currently teaching the 9-11 year old class on Wed. nights as we are lacking a teacher for this class. It is a joy to be teaching again, as I’ve been out of the classroom for sometime now, focusing on teacher training.
Preschool class
Our after school program, “Amigos del Rey” (Friends of the King), has kept me very busy. We currently feed 30 children from the neighborhood a healthy lunch three days per week, (Tues. Thurs. and Fri.).The kids come from 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. and they eat, wash their dishes, brush their teeth, play table games, and then do their homework. We have a small staff that runs this program, and are always in need of more help. We have some kids who are 9, 10, and 11 that don’t know how to read as they have not been in school! With our limited staff, it’s difficult to give them the one-on-one help that they need, but we are praying and know that God will send us more laborers! It is a joy to serve and minister to these kids. Each one of them has a story, and many of them are not good! There is lots of abuse, sexual and physical, and neglect which is common in poverty stricken places, where drugs and alcohol are prevalent. They are very much at-risk, and so we are here to show them a different way! ☺ They all need Jesus, and that’s just what we give them.
We now have the support from the local DIF here in Tijuana (They are children’s social services). They recently came and provided tamales for all of the kids, and backpacks for school. This is a big achievement, as here in Tijuana, it’s very different than in the states, and to have their support is a big deal!
They will also be giving us food on a weekly basis for the kids to take home, fresh fruits and vegetables…We also have a dentist friend who is Christian and is seeing every child free of charge! I see every day, how dear these children are to God’s heart, and I am honored to be a small part in what He is doing for them. I feel that this is the reason that God brought me to Mexico back in 1996, for these very children. I ask you to pray for these kids and our staff, that God would continue to bless us, giving the adults wisdom in how to best meet their needs.
We just celebrated Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16th. We had an all church party and dressed in typical Mexican clothing and ate a very delicious typical meal called “Pozole.” We also celebrate the freedom that we have in Tijuana to worship God.
In July, we had our 2nd annual Graduation dinner honoring all of the kids from our church who graduated from Elementary, Jr. High, High School, and College. There were a total of 14 this year! We want to honor each milestone graduation each year, as it is difficult to stay in school in Tijuana.
These are just some of the happenings here at Calvary Chapel Pedregales in these last few months! I am looking forward to a blessed 2013 and ready to be used by God how ever He desires to!
We ended 2012 with a bang! So many fun activities in the month of December—too many to write about, but here are a few highlights
The kids of CC Pedregales once again put on an excellent Christmas drama. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s true—every year is better than the last. They really put 100% into it; they’ve actually become quite the performers. We had practices daily for about two weeks, and they came in the rain, even some were sick but never missed a practice. This drama focused on the animals in the stable and they told the story of the birth of Jesus from their perspective. Then of course, they all sang and danced at the end—it was fabulous!
The Lord again provided shoebox gifts for all of our kids through CC Saving Grace. About 43 brothers and sisters came out and blessed all of the kids with a gift, and we had a clown group give a great gospel message with games and lots of fun and of course the opportunity to receive Him as their Lord and Savior. A big thank you (a little late) to David Wilkinson and all of the saints from Saving Grace!!
All of the teachers from CC Pedregales and CC Tijuana gathered together and formed a choir for Christmas this year. It was our first ever choir and it was such a blessing to sing praises to our King during a special Christmas service. I hope to keep this tradition going as it was a time of bonding and sweet fellowship. Please pray for more teachers to be raised up. Three had to step down from ministry this month due to changes in their work schedules.
I was able to surprise my mom and be with my family on Dec. 24th and 25th to celebrate Christmas with them. I haven’t done this in a long time so it was very special. We had a great time together!
I was also blessed to be able to attend this year’s Mission’s Conference at Murrieta Hot Springs in January. My mom lives about 5 minutes from the Conference Center so I was able to stay with her which was a double blessing for me. It’s always a great time to see friends and fellow missionaries serving in different places around the globe and to hear what God is doing. I look forward to this every year—it is a great way to start off the New Year. Deanna, a fellow missionary friend, is leaving for India soon to serve there for one year.
Thanks again for all of your prayers for us here in Tijuana, and please pray for the little ones and the elderly with these cold temperatures. Praise God for the break in the recent weather change, but I’m sure that winter is not over yet, and with no insulation in the homes and no heat, it gets c-o-l-d.
Let me tell you about my friend Debbora Braddish. She has been with us at CC Tijuana for about 7 years now. She has been such a great blessing to all of us—she is an example of a Christian woman who is truly abandoned to the Lord. While here in Tijuana, she founded an organization called “Operation Mercy.” This is a group of brothers and sisters that went out and ministered to the poorest of the poor on the streets of Tijuana, showing mercy to many people by healing their wounds, washing their feet, helping the elderly by changing their diapers….She is now being called to Calcutta India. She has a visa for 10 years, and she is going not knowing where she will live, but is just being obedient to the Lord’s calling to show mercy to the poorest of the poor in India. She has sold everything that she owns, and has only a backpack of the necessary items for her trip, as she will be on foot much of the time. I am telling you a little bit about her so that you could pray for her as she goes on her adventure of faith. I along with many others, will truly miss her.
Pictures: #1: My Dear Friend Debbora #2: Kids singing and dancing at the finale of the Drama #3: Yareli and her Christmas gift #4: Kids worshiping Jesus #5: Kids clowning around #6: Teacher’s Christmas choir #7: My Family #8: Missions Conference My dear friend Debbora
Kids singing and dancing at the finale of the Drama
Yareli and her Christmas gift
Kids worshiping Jesus
Clowning around with the kids
Teacher’s Christmas Choir
My Beautiful Family
Mission’s Conference

https://archive.sgwm.com/jevas/jevas/2013/01/23/january-update/

Blessings to all who read this update!

I am blessed as ever serving here at Calvary Chapel Pedregales and Tijuana. We just had a two day staff meeting at Pastor Chris’ house in Cantamar to plan out the activities at both churches for the entire year! Our minds felt a bit fried at the end, (well, at least mine did), but it felt good to get everything on paper. It was a cowboy theme, and everyone had a great time!! Over $300 was raised which made it possible to take the kids to the park!
Next came Mother’s Day. We love our moms so much and the kids expressed their love by giving the moms a very special dessert tea. The Jr. High class served them, and it was fabulous! I was proud to represent our brother Pastor Alfonso and his wife, Adela from CC Guadalajara. We have missionaries in Chiapas, San Felipe, Guadalajara, and Tijuana.
We cannot forget Father’s Day! We had our annual Pancake Breakfast for just the dad’s and their kids. They had fun decorating their pancakes to look like their dad’s faces. We also presented a very special slide show for the dads. A good friend, Pastor Gary Kusonaki and a team from CC San Juan Capistrano shared this special day with us.
The dad pictured above is not a believer, but it is events like the Father’s Day breakfast that brings him to church. The Word of God is sown, and the rest is up to the Lord! We are praying for his salvation.
And finally, in June we had our annual “Fiesta de Libertad” (Festival of Liberty) Crusade on the streets in downtown Tijuana. Many churches stateside joined forces with us to make this event happen. It was an awesome, well organized day. I believe there were app. 3,000 hot dogs cooked and served! My child was Denise. She is 9 years old and just a sweetheart. The kids of our church were able to put into practice what they’ve learned in Sunday School regarding sharing and giving. This was such a success, that I’m sure it will become an annual event.
[caption id=“attachment_131” align=“alignleft” width=“186” caption=“Christmas at the orphanage, “El Faro””] [/caption]
These are just a few of the highlights that closed out 2010. We were blessed to be able to minister to the youth, adults, and children with many special events. In September we had the purity conference for all the young ladies, and the women’s conference. These have become annual events. It’s nice to see all of the different Calvary Chapels in north Baja CA come together and participate in these events. I was honored to share at the women’s conference about Miriam the prophetess. The theme of the conference was, “Mujeres Virtuosas,” (Virtuous Women), and each one of us spoke of a different woman of the Bible that was used greatly by God. In July, about 30 of us went to Guadalajara where we celebrated Jesus with the “Fiesta de Libertad” Crusade. Pastor Bryan Parish from C.C. La Mirada traveled with us and was the guest speaker for the event. We were able to encourage the brethren from C.C. Guadalajara and many people came to Christ. A dear friend and sister in the Lord, Yandi Pacheco, went home to be with Jesus in September. She had a long battle with cancer, but she won in the end!! We visited her and I had the honor of praying with her just hours before she went home to be with Jesus. We were blessed by her faith and her endurance until the very end. She has been and still is a true inspiration for my life. I will always remember her strong, solid faith and love for her Lord. I’ve known Yandi and her family since I first came to Tijuana back in 1996. We had another all church mission’s trip in October to San Felipe. There were about 150 of us all together. We encouraged our missionaries, Octavio and Betty who started a Calvary Chapel there by having another “Fiesta de Libertad” (Festival of Liberty) crusade. It was an extremely hot day, but we all worked hard in service to the people of San Felipe. Like always, many children came to hear the message of how much Jesus loves them. Again, Pastor Bryan Parish from La Mirada, CA was the featured speaker, and there were quite a few people who asked for physical healing at the end of the message. As always, it was an HONOR to lead these beautiful people in prayer to receive Jesus as their personal Savior. There were tears shed, and joyful singing afterwards. Many joined us the very next day, Sunday, for our church service and beach baptisms, and LOTS were baptized. The Holy Spirit was flowing there on the beach, and all were blessed! PRAYER REQUESTS: • for a sister, Mary, from CC Ensenada who lost all three of her children in an auto accident. She tried to resuce them from the burning car, but was not able to. • For Pastor Chris’ health • That the Lord would continue sending funds for the renovation of C.C. Tijuana • Blessings for all the teachers of CC Pedregales and CC Tijuana, and for more teachers to be called to the ministry • For the construction going on at the ranch in Ensenada, (men’s discipleship home), for safety with all the workers, and wisdom in the building of the new dorms. • For the Lord to bless our Christmas musical that the children of C.C. Pedregales will be presenting, and that the parents of the kids will be reached with the gospel. • For the Lord to continue to provide for all of our needs in these hard economic times.
Thanks to all for your contined prayers for us; they are truly cherished!
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? Well, these months are just flying by! It seems that I am always apologizing for being so late in writing my monthly (well, it has lately become my bi-monthly) updates. I am sorry, again, for the lateness of this newsletter!
Every month seems to be a holiday or an event of some kind that we are doing here, and May and June brought us Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We always like to do something special, as we have so many kids who come alone to church and these events bring their parents out, so we like to take advantage of that and share the gospel with them.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day tea for all the moms of our church. We decorated the church so beautiful and really wanted them to feel special. They enjoyed a great meal, with candles and flowers, and some games, (like “How well do you know your Mother)?” with the kids, and then the kids left and had fun while the mom’s heard the Word of God taught by a sister from our Tijuana church. It was a very special evening.
Pictured with me here is Cynthia’s daughter. Cynthia was in the youth program here at church when I was the youth leader years ago. She is not attending church now, but her older daughter, Lupita comes to my class on Wed. nights She did come to the Mother’s Day tea, and I know that God will bring her back one day. After Mother’s Day was Memorial Day. Now I know you are thinking that Memorial Day is an American holiday! Well, we have so many friends living here that have been deported, and others that we decided to make this an annual event. So we had our very first Memorial Day celebration here at CC Pedregales. (Here in Mexico, we just look for a reason to get together and eat), and boy did we eat!! We had a fun time fellowshipping, playing games, basketball, and the kids really had fun with water balloons.
Next, came Father’s Day. We held our second annual Pancake Breakfast. The children all worked together to prepare, decorate, serve, and then clean up. We gave them all pancakes with lots of different things to decorate them with. The kids made their dad’s faces using whip cream, m&m’s cut up strawberries and bananas. It was a nice intimate time for only the dads and their kids, (no moms were allowed). What is great about this event, is that we get to meet many of the kids’ fathers for the first time! There are some dad’s here at the church that don’t have their children with them, and some kids that don’t have their fathers with them, so they “adopt” a child or a dad for the day and it works out very nicely. One of the moms told me that her husband was not going to come, and so his daughters told him that they were going to have to adopt a dad then, and so he came!!
Our music school on Saturdays is going very well. I have approximately 10 piano students and they are learning fast! We know that these kids will be our next worship leaders one day, and we are planning to go and support outreaches with these kids playing the instruments and singing.
At present, we are preparing for our Mission’s trip to Guadalajara and then on to Mexico City for the annual Pastor’s / Mission’s conference. We will be doing the “Fiesta de Libertad” Crusade in Guadalajara on July 11th . There are 33 of us going from our two churches. We are praying for lasting fruit as the gospel goes out on July 11th. We will be gone for two weeks and covet your prayers for traveling mercies, protection, unity and harmony among all of us, and for good health! I leave on July 4th and return on July 19th. Lord bless you all and thanks once again for your prayers and donations. Happy fourth of July to my fellow Americans!!
PRAISE REPORTS: I have some very exciting news! Our assistant pastor, Federico and his wife Nena were approved for their visas yesterday!!!!! We have been praying hard for this, and once again, God came through. This will be so helpful now, as Federico will be able to help cross the donations, food, and even visit the different Calvary Chapels!
Also, our brothers at the ranch were funded for satellite and they will now have internet access there. This is something that was so needed for them, so we are rejoicing with them, and thanking Jesus for His great provisions.

https://archive.sgwm.com/jevas/jevas/2010/07/03/june-update/

THE LATEST, FROM CALVARY CHAPEL PEDREGALES AND TIJUANA

Hello to all!

Well, these months are just flying by! And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead.” Matt.28:6-7 Christ is risen indeed! We celebrated on Easter Sunday with what has now become our annual sunrise service. We all gathered at 6:00 a.m.to worship our risen Lord, just as Mary and Mary Magdalene came to the tomb more than 2,000 years ago to see Jesus. It was a glorious day. The dance group from Pedregales danced a beautiful dance, and about 30 people made decisions to follow Christ. We held the service outside in downtown Tijuana, so that as the sun was rising, we would be hearing the message of our Lord’s great love for us in dying on the cross and rising again three days later. Some people from the area came and joined us, most of which are drug addicts, as this area is where they are all living. Although the sun didn’t come out much that day, the Lord held back the rain which we were so thankful for! Here Is a link to the dance if you would like to watch it. The kids worked hard and did a fine job. The song is in Spanish and talks about the Victory that we have in Christ, that “no longer am I going to cry, I have Jesus in my life.” (Easter Dance–Calvary Chapel Pedregales; Tijuana, B.C. video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xvUkIw4lco
The children enjoyed a wonderful program done by the group G.D.S. (Generation of Salvation), which is our Jr. High youth group. They did a marvelous job of bringing the message to the kids as well. They even ate breakfast together. We started a tradition last Easter in that we give all of the children a balloon filled with helium at the end of the service. They all come to the front and at the count of three, we let the balloons go. We watch as they go up and relate this to Jesus rising from the grave and going to be with his Father in heaven.
After resting a bit, many went to the beach in Rosarito to witness the new believers getting baptized. We offer baptisms on Easter Sunday as it’s such a great day to be baptized. We were shakin’ and bakin’ at the beach with the earthquake that hit. The baptisms were over at this time, so everybody decided to go home after that experience. Surprisingly, there was no damage in Tijuana that I know of. We are thankful for God’s protection. Thanks to all who called checking on us, we felt much loved! I leave you with this scripture which seems to fit so well:
“And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it.” Matt. 28:2
Thanks so much for your continued prayers for us!
Love, Deanna

https://archive.sgwm.com/jevas/jevas/2010/04/18/april-2010-update/

EASTER CELEBRATION, 2010
CALVARY CHAPEL PEDREGALES / TIJUANA “Come, see the place where the Lord lay. It was trying to all day, and the sky looked pretty scary. Well, we set up the tarps, and instruments, and began the outreach. It was so nice! I heard that everybody from the whole village came out. We sang worship songs, the dance group performed, and Pastor Danny gave the gospel message.
Meanwhile, the servants from Pico Rivera were with the kids down below. The event was held at a local public school. Well, one of the groups was outside, as there were only two classrooms. We got most of the teaching in, and then it suddenly began to rain, then pour! I know the Lord held it back for as long as He could. The people came and received the Word of God, and that’s what matters. We gave out gifts, hot dogs, gift packs for the women, and clothing. It was a time of stretching for all of us, as it didn’t go as smoothly as we would have liked, but that’s okay! God was glorified, and all were happy at the end of the day.
Something that really touched my heart, is that it was pouring rain, everybody was soaked, and as I’m passing by, people, even little old ladies, went out of their way to stop and shake my hand, or hug me and tell me thanks for everything.
Before the outreach, the group got to see our ranch for the first time, and meet all the men that live there, (right now there are 30). We ate lunch together, and played with the animals for about an hour before leaving to set up for the outreach.
The group from Pico Rivera were real troopers in all the rain!
Another difficulty they faced, was that the last dirt hill to drive up to our church was recently paved, and we are still not able to drive on it, so all of the vehicles had to be parked down the hill on a dirt road, with our very own guys staying up all night to make sure nothing happens to the vehicles. Imagine walking up and down that hill in the pouring rain?
Upon our arrival, down that small dirt road, somebody from the community called the police, thinking that it must be a convoy of drug traffickers, and so, 19 police officers came to check it out! We were all praying in the church, thanking the Lord for their safe arrival, and Federico, the assistant pastor,
took two of the officers inside the church to prove our innocence! It was definitely a trip to remember! I’m sure they will never forget it, but the good thing, is that they want to come back soon! We celebrated together the birth of our Savior here in Tijuana, and it was beautiful! There is nothing like fellowship with the brethren. There were SO MANY events this past month and “Gracias a Dios” we accomplished everything that we had planned.
December started off with our first annual Mission’s Conference. It was a blessed night with so many of the church in attendance! It was designed to help the saints “catch the vision” of getting involved in the area of missions, and help support those who have gone out from our churches to serve the Lord through prayer and financial support. It was a beautiful night! A dear brother provided for all of our missionaries to be there! Also, Pastor Bryan from Calvary Chapel La Mirada and Jim Hodges from Royal Paper Box in Montebello were guest speakers and encouraged all of us through the Word to get involved. All were blessed, especially the missionaries!
Two teenagers, Ruthie and Alex from CC Pico Rivera decided that they wanted to spend Christmas with us here in Tijuana! So they were here from December 19th through the 27th, and were a tremendous blessing to us all. They got to know the youth and children of CC Pedregales, and served in so many different areas. They raised funds at their church months before their visit and blessed all of the youth with Christmas presents! They too were blessed and didn’t want to go home! We look forward to more visits from CC Pico Rivera in 2010.
Once again, CC Pacific Hills supplied us with over 700 Christmas gifts for the children here. The Saturday that they planned to come and give out the gifts was a stormy, rainy day here, so their trip was cancelled. Now, the Lord had other plans, and His plan was to bless OTHER children this year. So, we all went out the very next Saturday, (a beautiful, sunny day), to bless the children close by us in a different neighborhood, called, “Laureles.” I was so proud of our kids here. They came along and SERVED them. The dance team danced, the children’s choir sang, some helped man the carnival booths, and even gave out the Christmas presents. Not once did any of them ask for a gift. (Of course we talked with them first about how we were going to serve others). They didn’t know that we had set aside gifts for them back at the church—it was a secret! They all got their gift the next Sunday at church. They got to experience first hand that it is better to give then to receive.
Next, was our children’s Christmas play! The children from CC Tijuana did an excellent job this year of presenting the gospel through drama and song. Even the babies along with their mommas, were involved. They were angelic! All were blessed that night, like always, and are looking forward already to planning next year’s Christmas play. Then, the whole church enjoyed a time of fellowship and desserts. I wish every day was Christmas! (Well, sort of)!
The day after Christmas, many of us went on down to the Men’s Discipleship Home in Ensenada to celebrate with them! We enjoyed a great meal of “Posole” together, and played baseball, soccer, and volleyball. We then all joined together to worship Jesus. Most of the men gave their testimonies and they were powerful! The Lord is truly in that place. The men are growing spiritually and they were so happy that we all came!
I thank the Lord for all that He did in 2009, and I can’t wait to see what He’s going to do in 2010! I thank each and every one of you for your continued prayers and financial support to all of us here in Tijuana. May the Lord bless YOU in this New Year more than you can even imagine!
PRAISE REPORTS: Berna and Adriana, (missionaries at the ranch), were blessed with a vehicle!!! Praise the Lord! They have been praying for many months for a car to drive their son to school every day, and the Lord gave them a 1994 Nissan Rodeo, and it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!
The Lord also blessed all of the men at the ranch with lots of things that they needed, like: socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream…all the toiletries you can think of!
As many of you know, I have been praying for a laptop, as mine has been barely hanging on. Well, it finally died, completely. I use it every day with my work here, and so was quite bummed. A friend of mine just so happened to mention that her daughter’s company had just laid off a bunch of employees, and were selling their laptops. I got a great deal on a Toshiba and am very thankful to God. He has his perfect timing, ALWAYS!
PRAYER REQUESTS:
A teen from our church, Carlos was badly burned on Jan. 1st. While shooting off fireworks, one blew up in his face. Please pray for healing and wisdom for the doctors. Pastor Chris and I each shared a video and it was so nice to see old friends and meet some new ones also. So many hearts were touched as they watched the videos, and many are excited to be a part of this ministry.
The kids from our music school are busy preparing for a performance on Dec. 12th, at our shoebox gift give away, and our Christmas service on Dec. 25th. They will be singing and playing two songs: “Silent Night”, and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” There is a choir, and guitars, bass, drums, and piano. I am teaching piano, and my four students are learning fast and doing great! Our kids in our Sunday school have been praying and they are seeing results! They began a few months ago to pray for Bibles, and God provided brand new children’s Bibles for them. We usually give them candy as prizes for answering questions, or winning a Bible game… but we ran out of candy. So they began to pray for candy. Well, just today, we received about two pallets of candy from Dovetail Ministries in Montebello. I’m amazed at these little ones and their faith!
We are preparing for a group of teens from CC Pico Rivera who will be spending Christmas with us! They will be here from December 19th through the 26th. They are excited to spend a Christmas giving instead of receiving. They are gathering gifts for our teenagers here, and are looking forward to sharing this holiday season with all of us here in Pedregales.
PRAISE REPORTS Our all church Mission’s trip to San Felipe was a huge success! Many came to Jesus and were baptized. About 100 of us were united and serving in various areas like: face painting, clowns, balloon figures, snow cones, arts-n-crafts, hair cutting, and much more. It is awesome to see the body of believers all working towards one goal—sharing the gospel with others. I was privileged to share with one woman who was overcome with emotion, and when I asked her if they were tears of joy, she said, “I feel something inside of me that is so wonderful, I can’t even explain it!” I then shared with her that it was the Holy Spirit, and how we’ve been praying for her and others for so many months! God is so faithful, and I always see how just making myself available gives me the opportunity to be used for His glory, and I end up more blessed than the others!
It’s a bittersweet time as we say goodbye to our friend, Gilberto who was our brother at CC Tijuana that went home to be with the Lord after receiving Jesus just 5 months ago. He was fatally shot on Thanksgiving Day. He never missed a service, and was so hungry for the Word, always taking notes. He was preparing to tell his family about Jesus, which was his greatest desire. He was 23 years old, and an only son. His father and sister accepted the Lord at his funeral. Please keep this family in your prayers!
We had a lovely Thanksgiving here at our new house. There were about 15 of us. My mom joined us, and the very next day, we celebrated again with the men at the discipleship home in Ensenada. It rained, but the men were so happy and we were all so blessed that God provided for the meal.
Pastor Chris is feeling much better these days, thanks to all who have been praying for him. We are happy, (and so is he), to see the “old Chris” back again. Keep praying for him and all the other pastors who are being attacked in so many ways by the enemy! I too, am feeling good and experiencing less headaches these days. We were in Palm Springs for a most wonderful time! We were in the Word and fellowship, and there was plenty of time to relax by the pool! I made so many new friends—the family of God never ends! The worship was phenomenal! Thanks, Terrie for inviting me.
21 of my sisters and brothers from Calvary Pico Rivera came for four days at the end of July to bless us with a V.B.S. and also worked on three of our classrooms. They were able to put drop ceilings in two of the rooms, and fixed and painted the walls of three rooms. The kids were thrilled when they saw their classrooms made over. There were over 150 kids each day for the V.B.S. We had planned for 80, but the Lord increased, and thankfully, there was enough of everything for everybody. This is C.C. Pico’s second mission’s trip, and they have made great friendships with these little ones. Some of the youth have a hard time leaving. I wonder what the Lord has in store for these servants in the future? They all worked so very hard and were a breath of fresh air for us! The finale of the trip was the beach baptisms on Saturday. About 40 men, women, and children from CC Tijuana, Pedregales, and our Men’s Discipleship home in Ensenada made a decision to live for Jesus, and we all got to be witnesses to that—It was Awesome!
School has started and Rosemary is now in the 8th grade and Christina is in 6th grade. Our hearts were refreshed and renewed.
Purity Seminar The youth from our church were invited to Tecate to take part in Calvary Chapel Las Palmas’ very first Purity Seminar! We took about 40 young teens, boys and girls, to hear awesome teaching from our brother in Ensenada, Thomas Shockey . I was so blessed to hear the testimonies of different young adults who made poor decisions in the past, share them, and encourage these young people to remain pure until marriage.
Generation of Salvation
There is a young man in our church, Raul Zamora. He is 22 years old and has started a new youth program called, “Generacion de Salvacion”, (Generation of Salvation). He is working with teens ages 13 – 15 years old from our two churches and other churches in the area. The Lord touched his heart and has given him a burden for these youth. Sadly, oftentimes the church loses these kids when they reach a certain age. There is so much that the world offers them, and they are pulled into a life of sin. Raul is an answer to prayer! His desire is to lead these youth into a deeper knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to that they would serve the Lord in many different ways. I feel especially proud of Raul, as I have known him since he was about 8 years old! He has grown up in our church, and he shows me that our labor here is definitely not in vain!
Praise Reports
The children in our Sunday school are overjoyed at receiving brand new Bibles!! They are Children’s Bibles with pictures!! They are beautiful. The kids have been praying for new Bibles for the past few months, and boy, did the Lord ever answer! They are so enjoying reading God’s Word, and that really blesses my heart! I’m honored to be able to instruct them every week, and they are growing so much especially in the area of prayer.
The Lord has raised up a couple from our church to oversee the Children’s Ministry at CC Tijuana, Luis and Rossy Lujan. They are a wonderful couple who have worked primarily with youth in the past, so this is a new adventure for them. This also frees me up a bit, as I will no longer be giving teacher training at CC Tijuana. Praise the Lord for Luis and Rossy!
Prayer requests
1. For our mission’s trip to San Felipe this weekend, (Oct. 17th and 18th). For the Lord to prepare the hearts of the people there to receive eternal salvation.
2. For our Men’s Discipleship Home in Ensenada. There are 36 men living there on faith. They are always in need of food and personal items, like socks, underwear, toothbrushes…God is good and has thus kept the home going. We trust that He will continue to provide.
3. For Javier and Luis, two men from the discipleship home, who are going out as missionaries to Michoacan. They remind me of Pablo, in the Bible, just going out as the Lord leads. It will be an adventure for them, and I’m excited to hear what the Lord does!
4. Continued prayer for Pastor Chris’ health, and my health as well. There seems to always be something that is plaguing us. (Chris is now experiencing migraine headaches).
5. I haven’t had a cell phone for a long time, so now I am able to communicate with my family more often, which is important and necessary. It was such a blessing to spend time with my family!
We were honored once again, to go to the Children’s Hospital in Tijuana and give gifts to the sick children there. This time was very different, as I have built a relationship with the director of social services, Cany Lopez. She allows us to go into the rooms and pray with the parents and sick children. This is not a Christian hospital, and this is not ordinarily allowed! At the end of our visit, she pointed to me and said, “okay, you and one other can go into this room and pray with these people who have terminally ill children that will not make it through the night!” It was literally a broom closet, so incredibly small where five parents were waiting for us. I was speechless and began to pray to the Lord to give me words for these broken-hearted moms and dads. (There really are no words), but the Lord gave me words of encouragement and Juanita and I prayed for them and they received it and one lady even re-dedicated her life to the Lord. There were many tears, as you can imagine, and as we were leaving, they were wheeling in beds of children and there were no more rooms available so they had to be in the hallway! I, along with the teachers, am blessed that the Lord has opened this door for us to be able to minister and evangelize and I pray that this will continue.
For Father’s Day, we had our very first pancake breakfast for all the dads in our church. This was extremely effective in getting the dads there as we gave the kids invitations the week before, and a few dads came for the very first time to our church! The kids set up and decorated the patio and when the fathers came out of service their child took them to the table, sat with them, and made their faces with pancakes using cut strawberries, bananas, whip cream, and m&m’s for the eyes, nose, mouth, and hair. It was very nice and we hope to do this every year. A big blessing was that the kids whose fathers aren’t in their lives adopted “dads” from the church for that day who are not able to see their own kids for reasons of deportation, etc. so the kids were blessed and the dads were blessed, as this day, like many holidays, can be very sad for some.
Thanks to all of you for your continued prayers and support for us in Tijuana. I wouldn’t want to even attempt to do any of this without prayer, so I really do cherish them!

https://archive.sgwm.com/jevas/jevas/2009/06/18/mayjune-2009-update/

Hello to all!

As I ponder the words of Charles Spurgeon:
… “The limitless fullness of His all-sufficiency is as free to the believer as the air he breathes. Here’s a little of what’s been going on south of the border
The teacher trainings at CC Tijuana and Pedregales are a great blessing every month. Many children are coming to church, and they are really growing in the Lord. We are also preparing for our annual teacher’s conference that will be in May, Lord willing, with Pastor Stef Mitrano and others from Calvary Chapel South Bay.
I was honored to speak at a purity seminar at Calvary Chapel in Mexicali February 6th and 7th. There were approximately 50 young girls, many of whom were not Christians. The theme was “Amor Eterno”, (Eternal love). The Lord touched the hearts of many of these girls, and we know that the words spoken will produce fruit for eternity. At the end of the seminar, almost all of the girls came forward to accept Jesus into their heart or recommit their lives. So many wanted to be “washed by the blood of Jesus” and made pure again. It was an awesome and powerful time!
I was able to visit my mom in Orange County and help her celebrate her birthday on Feb. 9th. We had a surprise party for her, and it was a great blessing to spend time with my mom. It was my first time, and I plan to attend every year, (if the Lord doesn’t come back)!!!
I was also invited to a dance performance with “Ballet Magnificat” in San Diego Feb. 26th. The show was called, “Deliver us.” It was the story of the Israelites journey out of Egypt and into the promised land. I took Rosemary and Christina, my homeschool students, and it was perfect, as we are studying the very same thing in Bible class. It rained all day off and on, but that didn’t stop the saints from coming to church!! The church was packed! The kids presented a Christmas Musical that lasted 45 minutes! They worked so very hard, sometimes practicing for up to four hours without a break! After seeing these kids work so hard, I feel the need to start a drama club. They did an excellent job memorizing their lines, singing, and even dancing! Many of the kids’ parents and grandparents came to see them, so it was a great ministry opportunity. Then, we all ate turkey and ham with all the trimmings! Chris’ brother, Don, provides all of the food for this event every year!
I enjoyed spending a week with family and friends in Orange County. It was especially nice to have heat and hot water!
The Lord has blessed me this past year in the Children’s Ministry here at CC Pedregales. The kids are learning so much and growing in the Lord, and hungering for God’s Word. They come, rain or shine, in freezing cold temperatures on their own to study God’s Word. It just amazes me to see this. Also, many of their parents have come to the Lord as a result of them. One parent, Alejandra, was convicted seeing her two children praying for her in their home. She thought how wrong it was that they were being an example for her, and not the other way around. She and her husband gave their lives to the Lord and are now involved in the church. I’m excited for 2009 and know that if I’m willing, God will continue to use me all for His glory.
As many of you know, I lost my dad last year to Leukemia, (it will be one year on Jan. 11th), and I just recently lost my dog, Sandy of 12 years. She has been with me the whole time I’ve been here in Tijuana! (This band consists of children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old).

Christmas 2008
Tijuana Mexico September 2008 Update September Update
We are coming into September with a bang! I will start home schooling the Pastor’s daughters, Christina (5th grade) and Rosemary (7th grade) soon. We are getting all the school material together and ready to go! The school here in the colony where we live is just too dangerous for the girls to attend.
My main focus here is working with the children and teachers. I continue doing teacher training for both of our churches, CC Tijuana and CC Pedregales. The teachers are growing in the Lord and the kids are coming! CC Tijuana is located just as you cross the border into Mexico, in the downtown area, and Pedregales is located about 20 minutes south east up in the hills in a “colony” that is very poor. I live in Pedregales at the church. Many of the kids in Pedregales are the only ones in their families that attend church, so they are bringing Jesus into their homes with the songs they learn, the craft with the Bible verse on it…! And they come, rain or shine week after week. Some of their parents are drug dealers or users, so they really need prayer! We are reaching their parents little by little. I am teaching the 7 – 10 year olds on Wednesday nights, with up to 25 kids, and the Jr. High kids on Sunday mornings. After teaching on Sundays, I then go to our church in downtown to attend the service.
We have a rehab. Center in Ensenada with 22 men presently. They used to live here at the church but God has provided some beautiful property in Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada, and they have moved there! We are praising God for providing an architect to help design and draw up the plans for this center that will be called the “Men’s Discipleship Center.” The vision of the director, Jaime Arista, is to minister and reach the influx of deportees that are arriving in Tijuana. They are literally dropped off on the streets of Tijuana, just as you cross the border, and it is a drug infested area.
On Fridays, I go out with some other members of the church evangelizing in the colony. I want to focus on the parents of these kids who come so faithfully. I know that God will bless and move on hearts. I just pray for lasting fruit!
We have a dance team of children ages 5 - 15 that dance for Jesus wherever they are invited. They will often times dance in events that we have, weddings, and quinceneras, (girls 15th birthday party). They love it, and are blessed to have professional dancers come all the way here to our little corner of the world to teach them. The leader, Ana Karen, is only 16, and is truly gifted by God in the area of dance.
We are preparing for our annual women’s conference that will be held at our Tijuana church this month. So far there are 115 women from Calvary Chapels all over Tijuana signed up. Calvary Chapel Pacific Hills sponsors this event every year and we are so blessed by them! Our Prayer requests: \\* God to direct the designing of the Men’s discipleship Center and the drawing of the plans \\* For the Lord to raise up someone to oversee the construction project \\* For the Lord to provide groups from the U.S. to come and help build the center \\* For the Lord to provide our own property for Calvary Chapel of Tijuana \\* For Deborra and Socorro two members from our church in Tijuana who left on Friday Sept. 5th to India for a month to minister to the most needy of the needy - Pray for protection – guidance – anointing – healing – salvation \\* For a member of our church, George and a few others who are planning to go to Puebla for three months to minister in a very poor and needy area \\* provisions for the girls’ school books Continued prayer for Terrie and her family: Ailin, Jordan, Karen, and Brandon. These kids come faithfully to our church and have for since they could walk! Mom and eldest son, Angel are backslidden. Their father/husband was killed last month in an accident at his job.
Thanks to all of you for your continued prayers for us. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” Mark 8:35 This verse from Mark was instrumental in my decision to leave my home and move to Mexcio. Hi, my name is Deanna Jevas and I would like to share with you my testimony and how I came to live in Tijuana, Mexico.
I am extremely blessed to have been in church all my life, basically, starting out in the Lutheran church. I didn’t know God personally for many years but came to know Him little by little. I grew up in Southern California, and had lived there all my life. I have one brother, Paul, and my mom, Kathryn. My Father passed away in 2008 of Leukemia.
I was a Kindergarten teacher, and then worked for Head Start as a teacher for many years before moving to Tijuana. A friend brought me to Calvary Chapel in 1993, and that is where I came to know Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. God began to work on my heart in the area of missions all the way back in Jr. High. I can remember attending the Youth Conferences every year with my church, and the missionaries that would speak about their adventures in different parts of the world. I remember staying after and talking with them, asking them all kinds of questions, like, “how do you eat the food?” I was fascinated by their stories of life as a missionary and, little did I know that God was already preparing my heart for the mission field!
In 1995, I was invited to go on a day trip to Tijuana with my home church, Calvary Chapel La Mirada. They were helping to build a church in a little colony up in the hills of Tijuana. I, along with some other sisters, was invited to a family’s home to eat, and I immediately fell in love with the people! I then committed to going every other weekend for one year to help out in Pedregales, the name of the colony where Calvary Chapel Pedregales lies. I never dreamed I would one day live here! I loved my life back in the U.S! Well, God had other plans for me. Little by little He was showing me that I was to make this place my home. I didn’t want to live here at first. I was fighting God—(I was terrified to leave the security of my job, and to leave my family, friends, and home church—I couldn’t imagine it). I did enjoy the weekends here, but I equally enjoyed crossing the border into CA and coming “home.” Well, finally one Saturday night, as I was praying, I said, “Okay Lord, you want me to go to Mexico. I’ll go! But I don’t have a place to live!” Well, the very next day, Sunday, a friend at church told me, “Oh, Deanna, if you go to live in Mexico and need a place to stay, my friend said you can stay with her!” My jaw dropped to the floor! Mind you, I never told anybody about the conversation I had with God the night before. I knew this was confirmation, and so this started my move to Tijuana. I was sent out by my home church, CC La Mirada with a commitment for one year. That was in 1996, and I’ve been here ever since!
Now, when I leave Mexico and cross into San Diego, I feel that I am leaving home! This is my home now and I love it! I have established friendships that have roots that go very deep. I look back on my life and see how God has prepared me even in my childhood to be here. I took piano lessons as a child and have used that here in the worship. I learned Spanish in school and at my job in the U.S. and am now fluent in Spanish. Much of what I have learned about child development in Head Start, I implement here with the children in the after school program and teachers. God had a perfect plan for me and it’s just like a puzzle with every piece being important. I consider it a privilege and an honor that He chooses to use me in spite of all my shortcomings! I love to teach and I love to learn new things! I love the fact that every day here is like an adventure! I know very well that “God’s ways are not my ways and His thoughts are not my thoughts!” I have let God take the wheel of my life and I’m just a passenger, or a willing vessel that He uses as He pleases. God bless you, Deanna

https://archive.sgwm.com/jevas/jevas/testimony/

Tijuana Mexico

Testimony

“If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
