We were so blessed to have brother Kevin Smith come to teach an evangelism course at our church in July. It was a weeklong course filled with exercises, Bible verses, and videos which helped explain the reason behind our call to evangelize and disciple others. We are very grateful for this course. It is exactly what I (Brian) had been praying for. We don’t want our church to just grow in numbers, but in strength, spiritual maturity and discipleship. We believe that every Christian is called to disciple another Christian so that we can fulfill our calling from God to spread the Gospel to the end of the earth.

We were so grateful to welcome our beautiful baby girl into the world on January 13! We decided to name her Cristina Lizbeth, named after our moms (Kristy & Elizabeth). Thank you to our sending church Calvary Rosarito for allowing us to have her baby dedication there. Praise God we have her American passport now and now we just need to get her Mexico paperwork done (as well as Brittany’s & Kimmy’s). Also while we were in Rosarito God took our good friend Chuck home to Heaven. It was a sad time, but also beautiful to remember all of the sweet memories we had together. We returned to Calpulalpan the first week of February along with Kristy (Brittany’s mom) to help us get situated in our new house.

I (Brittany) was able to go with about 9 other ladies to a women’s conference at Calvary Chapel Texcoco. It was a time of refreshing encouragement. The teachings were about healing our hearts and how we can help others through that healing process as well. I also got to pray for the ladies at the conference alongside the other Pastor’s wives who were there. It’s always such a blessing to have a time of fellowship, worship, teaching, and prayer together with other ladies.

We had an amazing Youth camp praise God! We had teachings, worship, campfires, movie night, prayer, outing to the pool, a rally, food, prizes, crafts, and more! It was such a blessing to receive over 50 youth from about 7 different churches. We thank God for everyone who made this 3 day event possible; all of you who are reading this letter, our servants from our church, all of the youth leaders, and also the team from Connections House! All of you played such a big role in making this possible and we thank God for your lives! (Click here to see a post with pictures from the youth camp)

Praise God we were able to have our first Quinseñera at our church in April! One of our youth kids, Andrea, had her 15th birthday party and ceremony at the church. It was a beautiful party and we were blessed to be a part of it! We are also very proud of her because she is taking our pillars class on Sundays because she wants to serve in a ministry, possibly the children’s ministry.

Praise God for our second team that came from Calvary Rosarito! It was an all ladies team who did a ladies conference here at Calvary Conexion Mexico. They did a two day conference called “Women in War”. It was an amazing conference with multiple speakers, activities, games, food, and an awesome program for the kids learning about the amour of God. It was also such a blessing to have ladies come from 3 other local churches and 2 ladies accept Jesus as their Savior at the end of the conference! After the conference the ladies helped us paint our new church building and did an amazing detailed painting on the children’s classroom wall!

We are so grateful with God for everything that we have been able to do so far this year! Big shoutout and thank you to my (Brittany’s) Uncle Phil & Aunt Melinda for the backpacks that we got for our kids. The kids were very excited and grateful for their Christmas presents! God-Controlled Change

God has been moving and doing great things here in Calpulalpan. Praise God we had our second baptisms, and there were 4 youth/young adults who were baptized! It is so sweet to see our church family grow and take steps in their faith. (Click here for more pictures)

Alexandra, Andrea, Bianca, and David stepped out in faith and got baptized! Also thank you Calvary Rosarito for providing our first 20 baptism t-shirts!

God is working in mighty ways!

Since we arrived in January, the our family and the church has been growing and moving in great ways. God has completely blown our expectations out of the box. Right now at Calvary Conexion Mexico, we have switched to doing 2 services on Sundays because the service was starting to get really crowded. There is about 35-40 people coming to our Sunday services, and there has been a new person, couple or family almost every week recently.

As we started our journey to Calpulalpan we scheduled multiple stops with various Pastors, friends and church plants from Calvary Rosarito along the way. As we crossed into the first state, Sonora, we stopped in San Luis Colorado where we got to have lunch with Pastor Asuncion (Pastor of Capilla Calvario San Luis Colorado) and his family. We also got to visit with our friends Lalo & Linda and their kiddos.

Bittersweet Goodbyes

Praise God we had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s together with our families! It was sweet for all of us to be together, especially because we don’t know when or if we will all be together next Christmas. The cherry on top was that Brittany’s brother, William, drove down from Glendale, AZ to celebrate with us.

We were so blessed during our sending weekend at Calvary Rosarito! At all three of the services Brian was given the opportunity to share about a few verses (John 12:24-26) that God used to confirm our calling to plant a church in Calpulalpan. Praise God we were able to sell t-shirts with our church’s name, and sell food to raise funds for our trip to move down and start the church. We are so grateful for the people who came up to us and encouraged us, supported us financially, and prayed for us. Talk about feeling loved! It was definitely hard and sad to say goodbye to our friends, family, comfort, security, stability, and more. On the other hand we have had so many people encouraging us that God will do great things through His work in Calpulalpan. God has continued to confirm our family’s calling through so many things and we are confidant that we are doing God’s Will for our lives.

We are so grateful for your partnership with us and for helping us to send Brian on the mission’s trip to Peru! Brian was able to go for basically a whole week, including travel. It was such a blessing and an encouragement for Brian to be able to see the church and the Bible college and how they are working together to raise up Christians to be future missionaries and church planters. At the missions conference Brian was so encouraged by all the people he met there from many other different countries. He realized that he has the same desire as them for church planting. They are people who are going through “normal” life struggles just like us, but they are on fire for reaching South America. There were 12 countries represented by the 270 people who attended the conference. The teachings were amazing, but what Brian enjoyed and was encouraged by the most was creating relationships with those people from all different countries. Being able to pray for them and also to have them pray for us. Brian was inspired by Calvary Trujillo and also their CBI for the work that we will be doing in Calpulalpan. We would like to especially thank Pastor Cory Kilgus & his family for their support and encouragement; and also to Arlin and his wife Rosemary who let Brian stay in their house while he was there.

Trials, Opportunities, and Steps of Faith

Hello friends and family! We want to share with you that we are so grateful for the great opportunities that the Lord has opened for us to prepare and train us before we go out to the mission field.

As many of you know, the Lord has called us to plant a church in one of the unreached areas in the south of Mexico - in a small city called Calpulalpan, in the state of Tlaxcala.

This time has come to a close and looking back we are so grateful for everything that God allowed us to do and experience throughout this summer. Even though we are not very busy with teams at Connections House, we have been keeping busy with ministry and preparations to move down south. The Lord has continued to bless us in many different ways, and we want to share a little bit about that with you. One thing we have begun to do is serve more at our church Calvary Rosarito. Mainly we have started serving in the worship ministry along with Brian’s brothers Kevin and Aldrin. Brian has also come on staff with Calvary Rosarito to get a better feel for things and learn more as we are preparing to move down south in December to plant a church.

The summer has come to a close with some amazing and encouraging things these past weeks. We went to the Church Planting Conference at Calvary Rosarito. Right before the conference started I (Brittany) was able to go to a Pastor’s wives brunch. It was very encouraging as each wife was talking about how it has been for them personally with their church plant. While I was there God revealed a vision to me. I have been struggling with a lot of doubts of myself, and in this vision each of these doubts or lies in my head were like these pillars that were coming up from the ground and surrounding me. Then Jesus appeared and wrapped His arms around me and protected me. God later gave me these verses while at the conference: Isaiah 43:1-2 “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.” God encouraged and strengthened me through the conference, through many people I spoke to personally and through the speakers. One lady from Culiacan also shared this verse with me: 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
