Becoming a Balloon Animal Artisan For Jesus

These past few weeks have flown by and I’ve had a lot of time to learn this week. Our week started out with the Purpose of the Church and writing newsletters. Writing my Newsletter was a blast, I had a lot of fun putting jokes in it and yet put a lot of thought into stirring up the body of Christ for good works. After writing an absolutely brilliant newsletter (opinions may vary), the whole team got ready for the outreach with Calvary Chapel Home X. It took us about an hour to set up and then the families flooded in. I then got to making balloon animals and boy those kids wanted those balloon animals. Left and right I was making balloon animals with my trusty assistant Jacob. The kids started to get crazy with their orders and it was difficult to know what they wanted without a translator and my approximately 11 words of Spanglish. Let’s just say I got a lot of blank stares. But apart from the confusion it was again such a pleasure to love on those kids and see their adorable smiles when they got what they wanted. But the kids didn’t just leave with balloon animals, they got to hear the story of Noah and the Ark taught by me. Not that my teaching was anything special or rivaled David Guzik or Spurgeon, it was such a joy to teach the kids about how God saved Noah and gave him a promise to never flood the Earth again and how God has a plan to save us through faith in Him. Not only did they learn about how God has a plan to save us, but by what means He plans to accomplish that. Just like God delivered Noah by means of the Ark, God delivers us by means of Jesus’s death on the cross. Just like God made Noah a promise to never flood the Earth again, God makes us a promise that if we believe in Him He will save us (John 3:16). After the time of teaching the kids did some crafts and ended the outreach after we ate nachos. ...

Crazy Week of Outreach

Last week was crazy! There were so many things happening! On top of all our classes and meetings, we got to do 3 outreaches. On Tuesday we went to a dump to minister with Calvary Chapel Home X. It was a humbling experience to see the conditions that people live in, yet a good reminder that Christ is our true riches. The next outreach we did was with Calvary Chapel Rosarito in a small park. I was tasked with making balloon animals for the kids. After many failed attempts I made a simple dog. It wasn’t anything fancy or good but it still brought a smile to a little girl so I would say it accomplished its task. At the end of the park outreach, I had the opportunity to pray for a group of younger guys who my friend Marcelo had shared the gospel with. Then, on Saturday we had our last and longest outreach of the week. We arrived at 2:00 at Calvary Chapel La Gloria where we canvased the area around the church inviting people to the outreach. Despite my Spanish vocabulary amounting to about 10 words, I was able to invite plenty of people. Then we came back to the Church and I got to making balloon animals again. After a while, we had a decent crowd of about 50 kids and adults. At this point, we split the kids and adults into two separate groups. The kids went absolutely ballistic during their time of worship. Then they got to see Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Once the adults had heard the gospel, we all gathered to eat some BBQ and watch the Jesus Revolution. Overall, the outreaches were such good learning experiences for all of the students. ...

We Made It To Mexico!

Dear Friends and Family in Christ, This is my first newsletter from Mexico! We left Calvary Chapel Saving Grace after the second service and arrived in Mexico around noon. From there we applied for our Visas and drove down to Rosarito where we are staying in the Connections House. We then had a time of prayer and worship, where we surrendered our plans for our lives and made ourselves available to the Lord. At the time when I am writing this, we have had our first day of classes with Pastor Trent Douglass. We learned about the call of Jesus to follow Him wherever He goes. After that class, we had some good refried beans, rice, and chicken for lunch, then enjoyed a time of fellowship with one another. Afterward, we had another class talking about building support and why it is a necessity for mission work. These two classes have taught me a lot about the complexity and simplicity of biblical missions. I’m super excited to see what the Lord will do with the remaining 6 weeks of Calvary School of Missions. ...

A Time of Preparation

During my time at Calvary Bible Institute (CBI), the Lord has stirred my heart for missions. Though it was the last thing I desired to do coming into CBI, the Lord has begun to work in my heart for the lost and unreached. It was through the Purpose of the Church class taught by Trent Douglas that the Lord began to stir my heart for the Unreached. After leaving that class there was a burning desire to see the Gospel impact the lives of the unreached. However, the question remains where does the Lord desire me to go? ...
